If I answered that question the post would be deleted but it seems pretty obvious why it SHOULD be different (better) than many other places especially if you watch the news. Generally speaking Florida is one of a number of states that has got supposedly got most everything it asked for wrt Covid supplies. That's why the lack of testing surprises me.

Nope. We’re no better than anyone else. “Supposedly” doesn’t mean diddly.

The information in that article and the previous one written earlier are both full of bad journalism.

I don't know of anyone that couldn't get registered for the testing as long as they got on line at 8am. 20-30 of our friends got signed up with no problem. You had to try early in the morning and you could not take too long filling out the form. The system gave you an estimated time when you first get into the system but if you took too long the time slots were released to other people. Sure, the web site could have been designed better but UF did a great job with this. They did not have to do this and many of the medical staff donated their time.

If the author had done even a little diligence he could have written a very informative article and actually helped Villagers better access the testing.

Alas, that is not the objective for that tabloid.

Why were those "20-30" friends who signed up being tested? Did they ALL have symptoms that a Doctor thought required it or was that for the UF Trial? Other then for the UF trial If they all had symptoms that would show that everyone needs to be a lot more careful out there OR people are getting tested who don't need to be and taking slots from those that do. Generally speaking (NOT referring to your 20-30 friends), if everyone with a runny nose gets tested it will cause major shortages.

The company who does the testing, the same one who has taken over The Villages Hospital and the one in Leesburg, owned by The University of Florida, that company is waiting for more tests.

It was for a RESEARCH STUDY.

We did it to support the RESEARCH they are doing. If you were in the REASEARCH STUDY you received a different test than the clinical test. Part of the RESEARCH as it was described was to understand how many asymptomatic cases may be out there.

Hopefully the results of the RESEARCH STUDY will better inform UF and others on how we might address this pandemic.

I think it's great that UF engaged the community in this effort. If you don't think UF should have been undertaking a research study you should take that up with them.

There was testing that was NOT part of the research study too. It is my understanding that the people doing the testing are waiting for more tests to come. I think if you feel sick you should see your doctor or an urgent care.

The full article can be read on the tabloid that cannot be named here and you can form your own opinion.
