Default The Jim Crow Museum

Taking at face value, those people who say they don't know the history of Jim Crow laws and/or the reason for the establishment of statues/monuments/logos/mascots/Etc., long after the Civil War...here's a way to educate yourself.

Museum Information

The Jim Crow Museum is open and is FREE to the public. The Museum features six exhibit areas -- Who and What is Jim Crow, Jim Crow Violence, Jim Crow and Anti-Black Imagery, Battling Jim Crow Imagery, Attacking Jim Crow Segregation, and Beyond Jim Crow.

The Museum also offers a comprehensive timeline of the African American experience in the United States. The timeline is divided into six sections: Africa Before Slavery, Slavery in America, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Civil Rights and Post Civil Rights.

The Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University strives to become a leader in social activism and in the discussion of race and race relations. This facility will provide increased opportunities for education and research. Please join us as we embark on this mission.

I would also propose, DO NOT destroy those statues of confederate soldiers/generals/leaders, but instead relocate them off of public property and establish museums like this...to teach our children about how/why racism and bigotry exists.

I would also ask that those who have no desire to educate themselves (or still worship/admire confederate war figures and/or racist logos/mascots/Etc.)...please just pass this thread by.

Thank you.

It is not good to continue to try to find reasons to be angry at things that happened in another time and were done by people who are no longer alive. I think every day in this country, there are fewer and fewer people who hate or dismiss or judge because of color. It is sad that people who have the need to feel superior will use other measuring sticks and will continue to be self righteous in their virtuous stance.

Racism is only one form of hatred. There are some whose absolute belief in their own superior selves and their disregard for those who do not agree with them is another form of bigotry and hatred. One can feel it in their posts and see it in their message of so much anger. So much anger.

Yep, people who are smug, fake, express superiority for dubious reasons (ie: where they were raised/their age/their own experiences or parents being superior to others/Etc.)...can help explain their constant anger & obsessions.

I mostly try to ignore those angry/obsessive types, continue to fact check and base my viewpoint/opinions...by always trying to educate myself.

Call me weird, but I believe education is something that is never ending, everyone should do until they die (even if we can see it from where we stand) and is often best accomplished, by questioning how/why the past is written...and how accurate it really is.

Which is exactly...what this museum does.

I know it's trite, but it just happens to be true..."Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." (often attributed to Santayana)
