The String Orchestra meets on Tuesdays at the Laurel Manor Rec Center from 8:30 am - 10:50 am. When you are here drop in and I'm sure they can help you. The orchestra doesn't take beginners at this time, but I'm certain they can find lessons for you.

Thank you graciegirl and mfp509 for your responses. Did a lifestyle visit in August, had wondered about that but no free time on the Tuesday we were there. Hey, wish us luck, big garage sale here on Sat! First of what will probably be several purges of "trash and treasures" to get ready for the big move next year. Anyone need a marble chess table?

How did your garage sale go? We'll be starting the same purge process next year! Any advice appreciated. |

having our garage this coming Sat, the 25th. we've had maybe 3 on our own and have hosted several neighborhood ones. always so-so results, but THIS time we have REAL TREASURES to sell. Things that haven't seen the lite of day for years, things that will amaze and astound, things that are once in a lifetime opportunities to acquire! things that would qualify for Pawn Stars and American Pickers! Bargains and free-bees galore! What more can be said, just has to be seen to be believed. (I'm hoping we make enough to go to the local festival for some carney food so I don't have to cook dinner)

Day 1 of 2-day garage sale went great. Unloaded lots of big heavy items that fetched good prices..very encouraged, looks like God wants us to be able to eventually move, just step by step. Tomorow will finish up with smaller items, then off to Good Will with the rest. I mentioned many times to our garage sale visitors that our property would be up for sale in March '11 and had some interest, anything to get the word out.

The first step of a 2-step purge has been a big success! All large items and tools that were for sale are now happy in their new homes. Plan to have a moving sale as the second step. Now it's time for painting and freshening up the property for FSBO in March. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

To the Klinefelters and Pturner--If you are planning to downsize (in terms of # of bedrooms) when you relocate, if possible clear out an entire bedroom at one time, do whatever repairs or other work is needed in that room, then finally shut it down (close door and close vent to room, this will reduce utility costs overall).
If you are both painting and replacing flooring, do the painting first, then replace the floor. During the interim between the moves, if you have any more large items to unload, find a local classified ad paper (often found at local grocery stores) and run an ad there, or place on the local Craigslist. These places also list people wanting to buy items which may be of interest to you as well. In addition, always a good idea to donate unwanted items to charity (especially with year-end coming up for tax writeoffs). Also go ahead and find a local real estate agent if you haven't already. S/he may be able to find contacts for people looking to buy your house around the time you're planning to move -- the quicker you can sell the better.

Thanks quidam64 for your advice, hadn't thought of some of those suggestions. No, graciegirl, this German married to another German has never been in marketing (both of my kids have marketing degrees and neither one works in marketing either). Just having fun with vocab, guess we Germans can be as full of blarney as the Irish!

More thoughts to consider:
1. Get packing boxes and supplies now. Any items you know you want to take with you, but won't be using between now and then, go ahead and pack. (You can use the cleared out bedroom, if you intend to have one, as a staging area.) 2. If you have items that you are planning to give to friends or family, you may wish to do so before the move, so as to not risk loss or damage in transit. (I leave it up to you to decide if that includes family heirlooms.)
