Default Florida Blue vs UHTV

Has anyone switched from VH plan to Florida Blue? Are you happy with the change. Would like to hear the take on it. We've had the VH since they brought it here.

If you are trying to go back to a Medicare and supplemental coverage you may be subjected to underwriting. I am not familiar with the second company you mentioned. Florida SHINE may be able to help you with this. We ran across the the limitation of going BACK to Medicare from an advantage plan, and just made the switch under the 50(?) week limit. I would ask lots of questions to Florida Blue.

I don't have Medicare, not old enough yet. I do have a FloridaBlue plan though. It's an Anthem-Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliate. They have a lot of different plans. The one I have is a PPO, with a $1 co-pay for doctor visits after the first 3 (the first 3 are $0), $2 co-pay for most 30-day generic prescriptions, the usual routine yearly physicals, mammograms, pap smears, all covered with no co-pay (since it's ACA coverage, so they're required to cover all of that by law - thankfully). I use a doctor who has his offices next door to the Villages hospital up by Spanish Springs, the specialists are all on the hospital campus as well. I think it's a $150 co-pay if I have to go to the ER, and that gets waived if they transfer me to in-patient, at which point I think it's something like $50/day co-pay for inpatient care.

The plan I'm on would normally cost around $1800 per month for myself and spouse. Thanks to the ACA, I'm on the hook for around $100 every month. That's up from last year but not having to go into debt just for health insurance is a huge stress reliever.

You didn't say but I will assume you are referring to the UHC Medicare Advantage Plan. Assuming this is true, you will find that the Florida Blue Medicare Advantage Plan includes UofFlorida/Shands and Moffitt as part of their network, which the UHC Medicare Advantage Plan doesn't. Also, both offer two different Medicare Advantage Plans with different out-of-pocket maximums.

Yes, you're right! I was typing on my phone and for some reason couldn't think of UHC. In yesterday's paper there was full page ad advertising the two, comparing them. We've seen a golf-cart parked at our clinic with FL Blue advertised all over it. YES, we did call for more information and know all this BUT my question orginally was, has anyone else changed from UHC to FL Blue and found they like it better??? I don't NEED to know about how other folks' plans are as we're not interested.

I'm still waiting for someone to respond to my question about switching coverages. Florida Blue has a comparison to UHA and on paper it looks good. I just wanted to know if people who've made the switch have been happy. I don't need to know about "other" plans or coverages as that wouldn't interest or apply to us. We use The Villages clinics and providers and are happy to stay with that. It looks to me they're just expanding possibilities.

Switched to uhc tv because you do not need referrals for specialists and it seemed uhc had the most specialists available to choose from

I switched form UHC to FloridaBlue this year. So far, my medical copays are less and my prescription copays are better. The care I received hasn’t changed, since all my providers are in network with both. I like the affiliations with the cancer centers that FloridaBlue offers. It’s obviously a personal decision, but I’m happy with my choice

I chose UH , which has a "passport" so that I could return home if I had a serious health problem , and i would have the same coverage. I would need help from my family should that happen.

Default Where in yesterday's paper?

You said yesterday's paper (Wednesday) had a full page ad comparing the two plans. I've looked through the paper and can't find such an ad. Exactly where did you see this comparison? What section? Was it The Daily Sun?

I switched this year on Jan 1, 2021.

As the other person stated, it allows you to go Moffet or Shands if the need arises.

Their OTC benefit is greater. Specialists fee is $30 instead of $40 for UHC. They have the same amount of doctors in their network as UHC and never had a problem finding one in network.

I don't see any difference in plans in that I am allowed to use TV Health Center and see the same doctor as when I had UHC.

Customer service is about the same..

Thumbs up Florida Blue

We have had Florida Blue Plan F for a number of years. I don't care about UHC etc etc. The bottom line is we never see a bill for medical care, all is paid for and we can go anywhere we want for treatment, diagnosis, etc. We have had some very expensive medical treatments and again all is paid for. If anyone can beat that then stay with what
you have.

Yes, switched from UHC to Florida Blue for 2021 and very grateful that we did. Too many problems with communications with UHC and that was before Covid pandemic. We didn't need to change providers either. All is now very good!
