Default Dried Baccala Is There a Store to buy it in the Villages Area?

In keeping with a long standing Italian Christmas of serving cold dried baccala I’m looking for a store to purchase it at. Last year there was Stokes seafood store in Leesburg, it just so happened the day we went there was there last day in business as a retail store. They still are in the wholesale business. I can buy it on Amazon but I’d prefer to purchase in a local store.

Anyone having any suggestions where to buy?

I would bet that Mazzaro's in St. Pete would have it but it's a bit of a drive.

Pinball Wizard thanks for the mention of Mazzaro’s. We’ve never been and want to visit so this may be the reason to head there.

Charlieo that’s funny give the dried baccala a drink. You’d enjoy what my wife and I do on Christmas Eve. We make baked stuffed quahogs, baccala drenched with olive oil and seasoned with garlic, calamari, baked stuffed shrimp ala Twin Oaks style ( restaurant in Cranston, Rhode Island) and Linguine in a white clam sauce with shrimp and scallops. The Italian side of family cooked this for on Christmas Eve for years in Rhode Island since we now spend Christmas in Florida I’ll keep the tradition going as long as I can.

Earlier this year, I needed bacalao to make some Fanesca. I gave up trying to find it locally and bought it online. Glad I did. Good stuff.

Just in case... Frank and Sal Italian Market click here

At one time my uncle was a commercial fisherman, that was before I was born. I did regularly go fishing with him. He was amazing. He would look over the water, see the waves and say the fish are there.

Back to fresh fish. There is a reason why they only sell cleaned fish. When you look at a whole fish it is easy to tell how old it is. In many cases what you buy frozen is not only less expensive but it is actually fresher than what you buy as fresh fish.

You can get salt cod at Walmart. Aisle A39 in the Summerfield store (next to the Historic Section up 441).
