A very good question. Our neighbor smokes on our lanai and we offer her a pyrex custard cup.

Most of us used to have lots of them.

Maybe on ebay?

Isn't that amazing? Ashtrays are growing extinct, just like the 8-track and VCR. This is a good thing. My wife is still a smoker and I wish she'd stop.

I have relatives/guests who smoke and I have a small, round planter on my lanai table with plain clay cat litter in it. Works great. I just dispose of the butts and just change the litter occasionally.

Get the "smokeless" ashtrays at the Dollar Store. The butt drops into the base of the ashtray and puts itself out -- less fear of fire and less smell. Hopefully, your friends will be respectful and not smoke in your home, just in the lanai or at a small table outside of the lanai.

Wife and I are Red Necks!, We use Sardine cans for people that want to smoke in our back yard, we roll up the lid. Last vist uncle Chuck got the lid caught in his beard, we had to cut a chunk of his hair off. They don't come back no more.

Tell them to go outside and stand in the ashtray. Afterwards, they can field-strip their butts.

No Fumar on our lanai - visiting smokers use the driveway and bring their own ashtrays (not our rules, just how it has evolved).
