Default 4 way stop suggested in Brownwood

I'm not sure who to contact but with traffic increasing I would like to suggest a 4 way versus 2 way stop be installed at the crossing of W. Torch Lake Dr. and Shady Nook Run in Brownwood. This is the corner where the Villages Golf Cars is located. It is also the intersection where most of the carts coming from the bridge and other locations enter Brownwood.

The reason for my suggestion is close calls and watching other ones.

Agree totally. There are so many signs around there, new people and others don't know whether to stop or not. Lots of honking going on too.

It looks like at one point it was a 4 way stop. The white lines on Torch Lake were covered in black paint. The problem is that a lot of drivers are assuming it's a 4 way stop and when they do this on Torch Lake it screws up the traffic flow. Then there's the inpatient and sometimes clueless on Shady Nook just assuming it's a 4 way stop or just forcing their way in causing accidents.

I agree with your suggested intersection but add the intersection where Meggison spills into Brownwood in front of Cody's. People speed up to make the light crossing 44 on Meggison and carry some speed into that 1st intersection. WATCH OUT IF YOU ARE CROSSING THERE!

The trouble with a four way stop is who goes first. Rules as I regularly point out few know the rules and fewer still will follow them.

Four people arrive at the stop sign at the same time. Who goes first?

The one who didn't actually stop and just rolls through the intersection;
The one with biggest truck;
The one whose back-off timer expires first; or,
The one with the least amount of patience.

Could solve the problem with traffic circle!

Good call and the best solution. Many treat it as a 4-way stop; however, those who know it's not run the risk of being T-boned if they continue through the intersection.

Re-design all of the entrances to Brownwood so that all traffic, autos, trucks, golf cars, bikes, etc. have to go into a parking lot and stay there, only pedestrians should be allowed on the streets. Problem solved and room for more bars and street vendors.

I've sent an email to Sumter County concerning this suggestion.

Thanks for the input.

*yawn* it's no big deal. if you have a stop sign you don't go until the cross traffic is clear. anything else just has it's own problems. perhaps if you can't figure it out or deal with it you shouldn't be driving. now there's a unique point of view eh?
