The new tax deal is being loaded up with pork... now they call them tax credits and extenders. Come ON. I live in Iowa. We know PORK when we see it. In fact the biggest pork in the deal is the ethanol subsidy which will help Iowa the most so I am not speaking out of self interest.
The bill should be an up or down vote on tax freeze for all. The dems already lost on their bill. If the freeze for all fails, settle at 5 million. DO NOT ADD ANYTHING THAT INCREASES THE DEFICIT. Nothing.. Everything else should be in a separate bill and should be paid for with real cuts in other programs. |

As most people on this board know, I am not one who supports causes. However, in this case I must make an exception. We have no right to artificially increase subsidies to products of dubious value when the result will be mass starvation as it has been before. As for the other subsidies, we have spent 75 billion dollars on wind and solar power. They provide electricity at multiple times the cost of nuclear or coal fired plants. In the case of wind power, there is strong evidence that shows you must have a coal fired or nuclear plant on-line so when the wind stops blowing, we still can keep the light bulbs on . I am writing to our Senators and my Congressman urging them to reject this bloated, pork filled bill. As JJ has said they should vote on a tax freeze without any additions for this or that. It is time to find out whether our representatives actually want to cut the deficit or simply continue with business as usual. |

Washington at its best!
If the Bush tax cuts do expire then we get hit with large tax increases. But if either party has their way we add to the deficit. Most Economists and Wall Street believe, at least from what I have read, that for now keeping the tax cuts will help the economy grow. Now we have all of this pork being thrown into the pot. What an utterly ridiculous group of people we have running this country. |

It sure didn't take long for the Republican leadership to show that they also didn't get the message sent by the American voter on November 2nd.
The Democrats outfoxed the Republican's again in getting probably 80% of their agenda in this lame duck bill, notwithstanding their caterwauling about "tax cuts for the rich". Democrats will be able to use this as political fodder in the near future when the onus to have repaired the economy will be seen as belonging to the Republicans, and if all the unconscionable spending in this bill thwarts or slows the recovery. What was wrong with calling the Democrat House's bluff and letting the tax rate jump in January if the Democrat leadership refused to allow a lame duck vote on a straight extension of the tax rates bill. The new Republican controlled Congress could have called a special session in January and "rescued" the populace from an "uncaring" Democrat Party by extending the tax rates at that time. Tea Party supporters and Republican Party reformers should be taking notes and writing down names. The primaries will roll around again. A reformers work is never done. |

And another yes....the Republicans should just stand pat and let the Dems struggle with the tax break extension. Let them fail and the rates go up in January. And when the Republicans take control....fix it!!!
There are still too many in office who know why things should stay the same business as usual...and too many who want things to stay business as usual...both parties. An additional flushing is still required in 2012. btk |

But I agree that Republican, led by the water works tan man, didn't get the Tax Party message. Their first act is to raise the deficit. Who would have thunk it. |

in power in Washington.
For the Democrats to load up a bill they don't like passing with pork projects in the face of the economic situation and overall lack of funds and continually increased spending...when we the people are fed up with such doings is down right laughing in the face of the voters!!! And the republicans who for all the same reasons letting it go to vote is absolutely laughable...because they have their pet projects in the bill also. It does not matter what the party, they are still doing business as usual. And until such time as that changes keeping score by party is an absolute waste of time. The ESTABLISHMENT has the momentum and are going full speed ahead. No business experience...no concern for we the people...no concern for continued deficit spending...and most assuredly NO LEADERSHIP starting with Obama and his team of wonders. btk |

This, to me, is quite embarassing to this country.
Democrats trying to add so much pork to this bill....Republicans doing much the same thing....$1 billion to fund the new health care law. Hope the Republicans have awakened in the last 24 hours and do in fact vote this thing down. Sen McCain made quite an impassioned plea directed directly to the President on this. No budget.....now this....crazy PS: I spoke a bit out of turn with mentioning a hope that Republicans can stop it.....I just hope some sense will prevail...I have not heard the President speak on all this stuff added but this is very serious what is going on |
