Default A/C Capacitor

Would like to know if anyone has a 30-5 440volt 50-60HZ Capacitor for Trabe A/C unit. Our stopped working tonight and with 4th Holiday trying to find one may be difficult.

Default A/C Capacitor

I think your Capacitor is a fairly common one.
It could be obtained relatively quickly ordering on-line. (Amazon, Ebay, etc.)
But, if you need it immediately your best bet is to contact one of the local A/C service co.'s.
It is fairly easy to replace it, if you are comfortable handling that type of electrical issue.
In my case, I have changed Capacitors a number of times, others may not want to do that.
Good luck.

FYI:. If the fan is running on your outside unit but the compressor is not, capacitor failure is likely cause.

The outside capacitor assists both the compressor and the fan motor. On my unit the symptom was the outside fan not running (I don't recall if the compressor was running or not).

The inside capacitor starts the blower fan that moves air through your house. When mine failed (bad luck this year) the outside unit was running and making the inside unit cold but the inside blower fan was not moving any air through the house.

..
Right. With a dual cap,It can be either or both that don't run.

My outside fan ran but the air temp was same as ambient. If the compressor is running, the air out the fan should be warmer..

The caps seem to be failing frequently on the newer homes.

Buy 2, and keep one for a spare. Caps are cheap, and they never go bad when the a/c service man is in your driveway!

Re: spares

Back in 2020, a few home's outside, Rheem water heaters stopped working. Turns out that quite a few units had their igniters failing. I bought a few spares so handy neighbors could fix theirs, and not need a service call. During the height of the pandemic, those igniters were $$ and a service call was $$$.

Now, capacitors in the Carrier heat pumps are failing, and service people are backed up. Unless one has a service contract, it could be days before someone can come out.

I've been lucky...having spare parts handy have been valuable. They collect dust, but are ready to be put to good use. Seems one is more subject to problems if spares are already in hand.

Someday, my luck will run out. Fingers crossed.

Capacitors only cost $15-$20 on Amazon. I always keep a spare in my garage as that is the most common failure point for AC. it's easy to check your current capacitor using a simple electrical tester. I had a friend of mine have their AC go out on a Sunday - we used my spare cap to fix his unit, and I had another spare a day later from Amazon.

I don't know of any service contract that will guarantee that someone will come to your house within a specific time.
