They won't insure a Sumter County home over 10 years old.

When we was getting quotes two years ago I almost when with State Farm. At time they wasn’t writing in any houses before 2003? Something about different hurricane building standard? My house just slide in meeting the new standard. I went with someone else the rate compared was reasonable the same at much lower price. Glad I did now.

19 Years for us. No issues to date.
Rates are in line with other providers.

We just switched to State Farm. They insured our 2007 home with an original roof. The 12 month premium is $856.

I made a mistake - no houses built 2003 or before. My math was wrong.

That’s good news. I’m trying to get a policy with them. My roof is 12 years old and the inspection stated that it has another 6-7 years of life in it.

I was told by State Farm office in the Villages a year ago that my 2006 home had a roof over 15 years old and State Farm would not insure. My Progressive Insurance policy had just gone up to $4100. I ended up at about $2500 with Allstate with the requirement that I also insure my cars with them. Roof age was not an issue but may have influenced rate.

This year Allstate raised rate to about $3300 so I am searching again. I opened an inquiry on the net and got many responses.

Most interesting was recent response from the State Farm. I was told that current State Farm philosophy is that roofs should have a life of 20 to 30 years. However, they require a 4 point inspection of the house by a non State Farm agent to insure condition, and that is submitted to State Farm Underwriters for review and hopefully approval.

My 4 point inspection occurred today. They inspected plumbing, AC /heat, Electrical and Roof. Interestingly, the roof inspection was done by drone. I received a copy of the report submitted to State Farm and it said roof is good for five years. Underwriters must approve.

I was told that I could improve life by replacing Shingle caps, but that would be my decision.

Any way am waiting underwriting approval. I have agreed to move my two cars to State Farm. If accepted rate decrease from current is about $1500.

This is current, actual, and pending. I would say give State Farm a Chance . So what if they ask for Roof inspection verification. Better than auto 15 yrs and out.

We switched back to State Farm when we moved here full time in April. No issues and we saved money compared to AllState which was the cheapest when we didn’t have cars to bundle in.

Keep your fingers crossed and hope they do not cancel you. If they do you will have limited good choices.
