It's not that. Photographers take hundreds and thousands of pictures. You're seeing the cream of the crop posted here.

Ansel Adams sometimes stayed put (camped) at a particular location for an entire day or more to be able take loads of photos of the same scene at all times of day with the various lighting during each.
