I recently got a tune-up (elsewhere) for my car that I purchased new in 2016, now with just over 50,000 miles on it and I'm thinking that it's a long-term "keeper" since it's been so trouble-free. I am VERY conscientious about maintenance, and decided that it was probably time to get the tires rotated again. I had the current tires (purchased online at Tire Rack, now with about 3.5 years/16K miles on them and wearing normally) installed at the Tire Choice store in Naples when I lived there and figured that the Tire Choice store here in The Villages would be a good place to have them rotated (and they might even do it for free because of the original tire installation at a Tire Choice store). No problems with the tires, ride, etc... just needed the routine front/back rotation and was too lazy to do it myself this time. So I made an appointment, and got right in... waiting while the work was done. Apparently because of the earlier tire installation at Tire Choice(?), there was no charge (or paperwork... red flag?) when I picked up the car. On the way home, I immediately noticed an odd vibration, and a loud "clunk" from the right front when I went over a bump, pulled into a driveway, etc. I called the Tire Choice store and told them about the problem, and they had me bring the car back the next morning. I arrived and waited while they took the car in. And then the typical "upsell" began. "Well, your car has 50,000 miles on it, and needs FOUR new struts". Amazing how four normally functioning struts can fail simultaneously like that during a simple tire rotation, and so conveniently while in their shop! I might be old, but I'm not stupid and have been to this rodeo before. I immediately asked for the keys to my car, left, and drove directly to the reliable, ethical mechanics at Accurso Auto. They pretty much called BS, too... I've got an appointment with them to evaluate the situation, inspect for any "sabotage", and make any needed repairs.

Stay far away from this place... your car or truck (and your wallet) will thank you.

There are 3 Tire Choice stores in The Villages. It would be helpful if you specify the actual store you went to.

Well if you have been reading TOTV you would know to stay away from that repair center since this kind of a story has been written about here many, many times.

They are pretty famous for not doing the work you paid for.

One example was a guy went in for a tire rotation, marked the tires and found nothing was done.
Another tire rotation story, and I can't authenticate it was a guy went in for a tire rotation and they put on somone elses old tires that were the same brand and model then told them they needed new tires.
I also remember a story where someone went in for an oil change and found they didn't actually change the oil.

But then again, some have had a good experience there but many have not.

Update: these are reports from the location at the Colony location.

Are you referring to all three stores? To be fair, I think complaints about a specific incident should include the specific Tire Choice location where it occurred.

Why would 2016 car with 50K miles need tune up? Not 1965 mustang? Spark plugs last at minimum 100K plus miles unless un-forseen problem comes up? Now if you mean routine schedule manufactures recommendations based on conditions then ok. Like safety check see if any problems creeping up, annual stuff like oil change/filters, and periodic stuff based on thousands miles tire rotation and inspection valve lash clearance checked fluid changes like antifreeze, brake fluid, axle grease, power steering fluid ext… even some of those not required under normal conditions. I find Walmart, Sam’s club, and now Costco tires are about same price as online without hassle.

Well, good luck with Accurso.

They were supposed to install (and I paid for!) a new alternator many months ago. Four months later, engine is making bad sounds, so I take it to them for diagnosis. Guess what? Bad alternator. I knew right then that a refurbished part had been installed originally. That's a fail...to put it nicely.

Buying tires online and taking your car to tire shop chains is a recipe for problems. There is no relationship with you. Their employees are just employees with no loyalty to you or the chain. Even local tire shops do not have the best mechanics. I recommend finding a private mechanic where the owner is on-site. They often sell tires, too. The owner tends to work on cars and have longer-term mechanics. You can find a good one on Talk of the Villages. I did after moving here and am happy. I agree. If you have a good car maintain it and keep it. I spend a little more with a local shop, but I believe it is worth it.

Thanks for the heads up about Tire Choice. Your post triggers a previous experience that I had with Accurso. Accurso serviced our cars by appointment for several years when we first moved to TV. I was always satisfied and became a loyal customer.

One morning I was out and about and decided I had time and could use an oil change. So I stopped in to Accurso, asked the man at the counter if the oil could be changed while I wait and was told I had to make an appointment. So I asked for an appointment and was told there were no appointments available that day. Strange, because it was morning, there were no cars out front and the shop did not seem busy at the time.

I politely pressed the man at the counter referencing my previous history with the shop, how much I would appreciate him accommodating me this one time on short notice, and his curt response left me feeling both slighted and dismissed. He just couldn’t find a way to make a one-time exception to the appointment only policy for a loyal customer and that bothered me. So I promptly took my business elsewhere and have never been back. The experience reminded me that loyalty is not always rewarded.

Only get tires at tire stores. No other work hence the name. Tires plus!

Costco is the best for tires. Use nitrogen and free rotating. Only sell premium tires.

Four things I have definitely learned from reading TOTV. 1) Do not use Tire Choice. 2) Do not buy from any Jenkins Auto Group dealership 3) Do not use Massey for pest, termite, or lawn, and 4) do not use Frank Gay Services.
