Default Can it be...TV cutting back on services/quality?

Ok, now I know this will be a touchy subject, but never fearing to go where no man/woman has gone before, here is my question. On a few occasions some posters have aluded to the fact that they feel TV is cutting back on ...services or quality. Is this real? or perceived by just a few? I know some are very disenchanted by the way the builder earns a profit on every thing he can; and that may be just an extenson of the attitude of the posters who feel that things are not what they used to be. (ie all the bad press esp about the Moffit Ctr)

I have had friends there and remember something about an outdoor concert on New Year's Eve by the Beach Boys (?). Now that may have been a one time deal; and it may have caused too many problems. Also weren't there firworks at one time there on July 4th? Also there was the post about the change of outdoor furniture at the pools.

I know that as a community grows, logistics have to change and that could be some of the reasons for the changes. Remember I am a Wannabe and want to clear this up for the lurkers who have not made up their minds yet. I mention all of this because....some post and it is easy to get an impression when the reality may be that just a few feel this way but they are the ones who have posted so the impression is skewed. (Personally, I think TV is all wonderful but I tend to have rose colored glasses anyway )

The answeres to your questions are all here. Just go back and read the thousands of posts on this subject.
You mention the Beach Boys concert....that you heard from a friend.
Don't believe everything you hear on the street.
Everything changes; perception and reality.
Don't worry....come on down.

"Can it be...TV cutting back on services/quality?"

I don't think so.

In my ten years here I have seen changes. Fewer parades for instance. Back then there were about 25,000 people here and the square was jammed with people for a parade. I don't think the squares would accommodate our current population. On the other hand the number of activities has increased.

There has also been a learning curve on the part of the developer. Not many mistakes were made but those that were made were not repeated. Multi-modal paths are an example and that has been corrected.

Frankly, I was once skeptical and thought, eventually, there would be some deterioration. In my opinion quality and services have not only been maintained, they have improved.

I don't live in TV so I really can't answer this.

What I can say is that we went to TV eight years ago and then again last month and it has gotten better!!!!

Of course nothing will stay the same... As it grows it will change. Some will think for the better and some for the worse depending on what stays and what goes.

Last week I saw them replanting the flower beds along Morse Blvd. and thought they didn't need to be changed out. They were repainting a pool that is only two years old and they have repainted our mailbox area twice in the three years we have lived here. I saw a worker using an antiseptic spray on the water fountain in the mail station and was impressed. That said, I do understand that at one time they brought in a few headliner performers to the town square. Overall, I have not seen any lessening of services and hope I don't.

I was talking to one of the supervisors at one of the rec centers, and he was complaining about a leaking roof . It took months for them to get the funding to get it patched, and he felt that it needed a totally new roof.

The sports pool at Lake Miona doesn't have lane lines in it - an oversight when the pool was originally put in. If you're a swimmer, its necessary to have the lines painted on the bottom of the pool to orient yourself. All the sports pools have the lane lines except Miona. The head of recreation said its on their bucket list, but they can't get the funding.

I've been noticing at some of the championship golf courses there are stones in the sand traps. This is generally a sign of cheap sand. It isn't widespread at all the courses, and maybe they just got a few bad deliveries, but it's something to keep an eye out for.

These are just a few instances where services have not been what we would expect.

If you're talking about activites at the rec centers, there does seem to be an increase in activites, but to be honest, those are all handled by volunteers.

We've noticed a lack of maintenance on the roadways. We live near Lake Sumter and some of the roads have grass growing up thru the cracks in the pavement, and so on. These need to be sprayed because the weeds can cause the pavement to separate. I'm not sure if The Villages is in charge of maintaining the streets or the county. There are other areas where poor quality concrete was put in, especially on the sidewalks and recreational trails, and needs repair.

Overall, everything is nice and new, and we enjoy it, but as the community ages, the maintenance issues are a concern, to us anyways. We live here fulltime, and tend to notice things like that.

I hope your right. I'm a shortimer here but this place looks as great as it did back when I had my Lifestyle visit.

I noticed this on the north side as well. I know as the streets and sidewalks age they will need more care.

Haven't really noticed it south of 466 but it is newer.

Aren't those roads the counties (Marion, Sumter, Lake,) responsibility?

I suppose each person's perception is his/her own reality, but may not be the reality of the majority if that person is not very perceptive!
does that make sense??? lol!

I was responding to your question: "Aren't those roads the counties (Marion, Sumter, Lake,) responsibility?" in post#9.
