An interesting read and one I believe is more likely to happen than most people believe. Not only has Apple been doing the R&D, they have a huge pile of cash they are sitting on.
My other thought. If not Apple, then perhaps it's Google.

Maybe this will cause the cable companies to severely cut subscription cost in the near future in order to compete with this new technology of Apple. Won't that be nice.

I've been a diehard Apple fanboy for over ten years....I'd do this in a heartbeat. I hate my cable experience and large bill, poor pixilated picture, and paying for over 200 channels to get the 6 I watch.
My son recently switched to just basic, and watches all his shows via streaming netflix and hulu. It is awesome. Frank

I, too, only have basic and watch everything else through Apple TV : Netflix, Podcasts. The free radio stations are great and have screen savers that are attractive and not distracting. Had some issues with the pay per view - It loaded slowly and didn't buffer well at times. Love that there are no commercials. Would like to cancel the basic cable, but can't cut the cord yet.

If only the brains at Apple could be sent to Washington, to redesign and replace government out of control and unresponsive to the consumer/constituent.

We ditched premium channels too and stream extra content when we want it. Also ditched telephone land lines after they became superfluous.
It's a wonder TV programming schedules even exist anymore. The notion of having to watch a certain program at a certain time seems, well... so five minutes ago. ![]() |

Unless it is a seamless conversion I doubt if the majority of the people watching TV will ever switch. A friend asked me to see what it would take to stream the soaps to his TV after they go off of the air. Unless you have all of the pieces in place it is not cheap or worth doing. Not everyone has wireless or a laptop to spare for the straming.
I will stick to the cable and the problems I have with them before I go through the expense of getting the pieces I need to stream video.

I believe most of the newer TV can be used to stream video from your PC. The PC needs the hardware to perform that function if you want to use your TV. I just watch the programs on my PC monitor since it is large and better quality than the TV picture anyways.
Disclaimer: I own shares in AAPL. The "experts" are predicting it will hit $600. Too bad AAPL does not use some of their cash to pay dividends. I believe the cash pile is about $76B now. |

Went with Google TV and reduced the Dish programming. It works well with Netflix streaming but Google has dropped the ball with updates/improvements. We also lost the land line phones but have DSL. A laptop with a VGA to the TV will also play the Netflix. I think once Apple makes up it's mind to take over TV, it will succeed, and I'm all for it.
