Unhappy Nursing Homes

We just moved to The Villages (2 months now) and need to move my mother to a nursing home in this area. She 97 and a dementia patient that needs 24 hour care. Could someone recommend a good facility or a list of places we can check out? Sure could use some help. Thank You!

My wife's mother moved here with us. After 3 years she needed a nursing home.
We visited homes in Bushnell, Clermont, Apopka, Eustis, Leesburg & Wildwood.
NOW, it depends how much you want to pay.
The one in Leesburg is nice but COSTLY. Wildwood accepts Medicaid and we went there. Leesburg does not.
Good is a matter of opinion but Wildwood (Arbor Village) is acceptable with visits by my wife.

I worked as a nurse in long term care for 28 years before retiring.I would suggest you check out the nursing homes, by visiting them at different times during the day as well as in the evening, always go unannounced and request a tour. Check out how many residents on a unit, and how many staff members are caring for them, ask if there is a high turnover of staff.

You
can go to websites to check on deficiencies from state surveys nursing homes receive.,so if you have one in mind, you can see what their rating is.

My daughter is a therapist. She worked for a short time at Arbor Village in Wildwood and hated it there. She didn't like their procedures and just felt that people were unfriendly and unhelpful. She left there and got a job at Avante in Leesburg and loves it there. We have stopped in to see where she works and the people there are very friendly. The staff is caring and compassionate. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it is nice and clean inside, and from what she tells me, the entire facility is scheduled to be remodeled. I know they work with Dementia patients there and accept Medicare. You should check it out.

I'm a RN and I agree you must make several unannounced visits. at different times. and go to the nurses stations and see what is happening. I worked at Lake Lake Specialty care for 2 months in 2010 and would not recomended it, staff was very unprofessional and clicky. Some head nurses would dissapper for long peroids of times and not be available for nursing staff. Seems sometimes aids would ignore the call bell and some of the Nurses would not enforce it . Heard one nurse scream out profanity ! several 4 letter words. I would not send my family there! good Luck be a good observer!
Hopefully it is improving but not at that time, just be cautious!

Default Nursing homes

Moved my mother to Heidi's Haven. She has Alzheimer's (advanced). They handle this in a small setting. Staff and whole set-up has been wonderful. Ads appear often in Daily Sun.

Check out Lexington Park on 466 near Rolling Acres. It's a new facility with a dementia unit. My mother is there and the care is excellent.

Default nursing home

My 96 y/o sister inlaw came to live with us and we finally had to place her in a home. WE finally chose Avante' at Leesburg...She absolutely loves it there and so do we... They are very clean, I mean it passes the nose test everytime..that is important to me...The care is very good, the activities etc...
I have not one complain with Avante'..I would recommend it...

A good friend was sent to Arbor Village after having her broken hip replaced at Leesburg Hospital and I visited several times - HORRIBLE. She was left lying in filth, would call for ages and not get help, and her dressing was not changed at all, her surgeon was furious. I have heard good things about Lake Harris rehab facility as well as Avante.
