Default Questions about renting

We would like to rent our home during the month of January. As this would be our first attempt to rent our home we are looking for any tips. One concern is insurance in case renter gets injured. Agent was vague when we checked. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

If you have Homeowners Insurance policy, they are NOT covered. You need a renter property policy & diffent policy if they have use of your golf cart.

We have a rental policy. My agent said golf cart is similar to car. You can let someone borrow it and they are covered. Don't mention golf cart in rental agreement and I should be OK.

We always take out travel insurance. Covers everything.

I would hope you have an umbrella policy that covers you for at least $1 million. That is the first insurance you will need. I certainly would not let a renter use my golf cart. Way too many liability issues with that. Let them rent a golf cart on their own for a month from some place like Village Golf Carts.

I know the umbrella policy requires full coverage on homeowners, too.

In a society that is just filled with people waiting to file lawsuits, you have to be very careful - or you may find everything gone that you worked for all of your life.

It seems that most rentals here in TV include a golf cart. I used Villages 4 rent, and most included a golf cart for the renters to use. The house we have been renting since August includes the golf cart. We DID get our own renters insurance for the house, though.

This will be my 12th year renting at TV. I have always asked for a cart in the rental agreement and have always made it a point to leave the place at least as good as it was when we checked in, and in some cases better. Get a good agent to help you, someone like Vilas Hinkle. You shouldn't have any problems. January will be an easy month to rent. Good luck.
