Default under bed storage??

I posted this in the building your new home forum but but I wasn't the right forum so here goes. We are contemplating getting one of those platform beds with storage underneath and if anyone else has this kind of bed. Seems great with the storage drawers under it but if you have one do you still like it or is it too trendy and will get tired of it too soon. Just wondered. The furniture shopping is never ending but fun!

I had twin platform storage beds in my son's room and they were very useful. On the other hand, we had a king platform storage bed and didn't use the drawers because they were too heavy and cumbersome to pull out. But it also had a storage headboard which was very useful.

Default Had a platform bed with storage

a few years ago in Ohio - I didn't like it, felt the mattress was too hard, but that could just be me or the mattress. The drawers were big and clunky.

Currently, I keep zippered clothes storage bags under the bed for extra storage. We currently don't really need that, as we have extra shelving in our vaulted ceiling closet, but knowing myself, will probably expand to fill all my available space.

Could keep our snorkeling gear under the bed, or winter pj's, or grandkid toys, lots of possibilities.

I think the idea is great for a guest room...you can keep extra linens and stuff in there..personally, I think I'd get tired of it in my room (besides, where would the dust bunnies live?)

Default beds with underneath storage

Some of the beds I've seen with these drawers in them are tight to the floor so no dust bunnies. I thought that this style was a plus for that reason...no need to vacuum under the bed! Was eyeing the sleigh beds too, or the beds with 4 posts, or the beds with.....you get the idea.

That is what we have and love the bed. The Master-piece Pedestal with the sleigh headboard. We use all of the drawers for storage and as you noted do not have to clean under the bed. Got it at Babbette's in Leesburg. Since you really do not need a box spring we opted for a Tempurpedic mattress. Below is a link to the US manufacturer.

Default boyd bed frame

My sister just ordered a bed frame by Boyd. She ordered it online through Walmart.com. It is a metal frame, 14 inches high so you don't need box springs. It will give her much more storage than the beds with built in storage. She also ordered the brackets to attach the headboard. They will ship it free to the Wal Mart closest to her. Just Google Boyd bed frame.

The bed isn't as comfortable without the box springs.

My husband has built two Q-size platform beds with storage under. For access, the top raises up on one side with gas piston rods. When we lived in our condo, storage was at a premium and that's where he conceived of the idea. Voila! 30 cu. ft. of storage for files, out-of-season clothing, etc. When we moved here he duplicated it for the guest room. You can use it with a bedskirt and headboard and it looks just like a regular bed.

Our guests don't even notice that it's a platform bed (at least until he raises the top and shows them). But, without exception, they all remark how comfortable the mattress is. It's a Beautyrest.

Actually after 3 1/2yrs the room is still not done. No rush, got plenty of time and so much to do every day.
The 1st picture is not our bed. On that web site under the Headboards section and then under the Classic Sleigh link, the bottom picture is our king bed. Two nightstands and a full dresser, still looking for a mirror. One of the best things about this type of bed, which I forgot to mention, is the height. Platform beds are closer to the floor. Very easy to get into and out of.

Default Storage

Last time I checked a under bed storage I felt a hairy leg move and it said.

" Has he left and gone to work yet!

I just left it there! That was a past life!

You're too funny! Actually when I started this thread I worded it wrong. I was wondering how people liked the platform beds with under the bed storage. I was wondering about the beds.....I didn't make myself very clear. The storage was a bonus on the bed!
