Default Five step plan for a winning campaign

"Since you are seeking the most important position and since you have so many potential enemies you can't afford to make any mistakes. You must conduct a flawless campaign with the greatest thoughtfulness, industry and care. You must:"

[B]1. "Promi1se everything to everyone. Tell them what they want to hear. In promising anything tell them that unless of some clear obligation preventing it, but only live up to those obligation that benefit you."

2. "Call in all favors. If you have helped friends or associates tell them its payback time. Make it clear to each one who is obligated to you exactly what you expect of them. If someone is not in your debt remind them that you can reward them later, but only if he backs you now."

3. "Know your opponents weaknesses and exploit them. A winning candidate calmly assesses his opponent and then focuses relentlessly on his weaknesses all the while trying to distract voters from his strengths."

4. "Flatter voters shamlessly. A candidate must make voters believe that he thinks their important. Shake their hands and look them in the eye, listen to their problems."

5 . "Give people hope. Even the most cynical voter want to believe in someone. The most important part of your campaign is to bring hope to people and a feeling of goodwill toward you Voters who believe that you can make their world better will be your most devoted followers....."

What expert offered this solid advice?

Quintus younger brother of Marcus Tullius Cicero who was running for roman consul 64B.B.C. Marcus won with more votes than any other candidate, went on to save the republic from a conspiracy and was eventually given the title of "father of his country". Unfortunately he ran afoul of Mark Anthony and was murdered in 43 B.C.

Professor Philip Freeman "How To Win An Election: An Ancient Guide To Modern Politicians.

Keep these five steps in mind everytime you hear a politician speak and especially remember promise them anything but only do what benefits you.

TV2: The original post in this thread is party neutral and intended to demonstrate just how far back politicians have been making promises to and flattering voters. The advice contained herein is more important than any one candidate and as all voters we must recognize when someone has kissed the blarney stone or politicians will continue with the insincere hyperbole...Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

Personal Best Regards:

Right you are, I am such a jerk. Comments like that make me worse than the person I have problems with. I will go back and clean it up for the next viewer.

I'm so happy the liberals are still stuck in the brainless ridicule mode. Leave the serious discussion for the people who can.

I think that's supercilious. Sarah Palin will always be someone to emulate in my view, no matter the liberal bias and ridicule of someone better that they.

It really gets old. Unable to discuss issues, the ridicule just goes on. To me, it simply shows a serious lack of ability to talk about issues, a lack of knowledge on issues, or just bad genes. NOBODY is natively as cruel and ill informed and able to simply talk in hurtful and really vicious about human beings who have accomplished more than the poster can even imagine. My first thought is jealousy, and then I realize that these folks don't even know enough to know what they might be jealous of. Thus, it is just total mean spirited and inormation starved folks.

Bucco/Richielion: The truth is that many folks are catching on to this sort of nonsense perhaps because they finally recognized how much is at stake. Peggy Noonan wrote an article concerning this nastiness and made mention that liberal men apparently believing they were on the right side could mercilessly denigrate women. She gave a number of examples but I am not as fearless as she in citing them. Kathyrn Lopez in today's Sunday 3/18 Daily Sun did likewise. IMHO, thank God we have more Americans who will always take the high road and can appreciate the importance of fair play. The Bill Maher's of the world eventually disappear . Consider what type of person would make sport of Sarah Palin's child by referring to the child as a retard. It reeks of hate and Bill Maher, Jo Behar and Rosie O'Donnell are at the top of that list when it comes to Palin haters.

By the way the liberals may have made a freudian slip when filming Game Changer. As you recall at the end of the movie the crowd ignored McCain and chanted Sarah Sarah........Interesting that the liberals/enemies flooded her with lawsuits and bad press following the campaign. Do you suppose they feared she was just getting started and so they were so concerned that the overkill in ridicule, et al which continues today? I do. The liberals fear her and so they will never cease their endless and vile attacks. That is my opinion but other will have to decide.

Ah, the well-meaning but sadly mistaken Republicans who are blinded by their Sarah Palin adoration. The woman was totally unprepared and too ignorant to be on the national political scene. She did not know world history, did not know the Queen of England was not the political head, could not answer what newspapers she read on a daily basis, and thought she knew foreign policy because Russia was in close land proximity to Alaska. She lied about the Bridge to Nowhere. Her debates were centered on changing the subject when she was clueless on an issue. Sarah is a great actress and great speaker but what she will be remembered for - and what will ever prevent her for holding office again - SHE QUIT HER ELECTED POSITION AS GOVERNOR.
