Under Florida law, protesters will not be allowed to bring squirt guns to the republican convention, but they will be allowed to bring a fully loaded firearm as long as they have a concealed weapons permit. Does this make any sense at all? Thousands of armed protesters condoned off in a small area all locked and loaded. Republicans may be having second thoughts about selecting Tampa as its convention site.

I believe but not positive that North Carolina, home of the Democratic covention, has the SAME law !!

And oh by the way contrary to anti gunner horror mis information, those who took the time to get a license are not your worry...and most of you know that but you would prefer to dwell on the one who might be a loose cannon or more importantly stick to the party (any party) line of guns no matter what are bbbbaaaaaadddddd!!!

So does that mean 15,000 armed protesters? Get real. The greatest fear I would have is the illegal carrying of a firearm. Those that have not under went a background check, training, and paid to have the right to carry concealed.

It appears that the thread starter is simply trying to "take shots" at the Republican party....that is important to some folks...the party to which they belong and not interested in anything but stirring everyone up.

The Dem convention in NC faces the same problem as in Tampa but she fails to mention that.

She also fails to mention how the city of Tampa is cooperating with the "protestors" even to the point of passing out bullhorns. She also fails to mention, and this has not been finalized as of yet, the setting of zones within the proximity of the convention site...ie., safe zones, secure zones, etc.

This is simply to create...well, not sure exactly what the intention, but the ORIGINAL premise she posted is a law in just about all states saying a permit cannot be overturned by any city....she would like you to think that somehow, this is something bad about Republicans (by the way, the mayor of Tampa is Democrat). Some folks put party over EVERYTHING

Since these protesters will be in a cordoned off area and are not allowed to have squirt guns, I would expect that all attendees will be stopped and asked for their right to carry license.

It's funny how you know what my motivation is when there is none. I did not know that about the Dem convention since it's not in the newspaper everyday like the coverage of Tampa is. I never even mentioned republicans except to say that perhaps they were rethinking the site they chose for their convention. I have also turned you in at least 25 times for personal attacks. Keep it up.

While you make light of this, for whatever reason, there is a lot of planning going into this by the Democratic mayor and council and the county. You pick up on the squirt guns I assume in a feeble attempt at humor, but the mayor is working to set up zone that will allow protestors to be able to have access to areas close to the convention and within sight. The provision that will not allow the city to not allow handguns was found to be the case AFTER the zones were set or at least the potential zones were set. The squirt guns you find so amusing were part of a list of items not allowed in the clean zone. They are trying to protect everyone without violating anyones rights..and to protect our police officers.

While I still do not understand even the premise for this thread, I assume you are also aware of the many protests scheduled for the Democratic convention and will even give you a link to one of the sites...

I have not and will not attack you in anyway.....this IS a discussion forum...DISCUSSION and most folks expect some hint in the thread opener at what the person hopes to discuss.

I simply responded since you mentioned the Republican convention [B]ONLY, and there are TWO that have the same problems to deal with and it was with wonder why you isolated only one.

PS...I would also suggest you read the Charlotte newspapers and find their plans for the convention and you will find the same kind of things going...oh, and can you supply a link if someone suggest they were having second thoughts because that is news to me.

You are correct Bucco. The city of Charlotte, NC, is going to receive a $50 million federal grant for security at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. The city is going to spend $25 million on “undisclosed weapons” for law enforcement to use during the event. The DNC has a set of similar banned items.

One thing that strikes me as funny about the DNC convention, other than the fact that Obama is expected to give his acceptance speech in the “Bank of America” arena, is the fact that the DNC Convention rules will permanently remove the Occupy Charlotte protesters from the area. Remember Obama’s, “You guys are the reason I ran for office,” comment?

Bucco didn't attack you, janmcn. He is contributing to a dicussion on this forum. A discussion means hearing all sides of an issue. If you have "turned him in" 26 times and he hasn't been banned, I think that in itself answers the question of whether he is attacking you. Bucco has been a member in good standing of this forum for as long as I've been here and he's one of the most honest, informed, fair and non-confrontational members.
