With so many reports of theft of electronics and money from TSA employees, I was wondering what the best way to bring a laptop with me on the airplane.
Is it safe to pack in our carry on? Any hints or tips to make it easier? I need a large tote/purse just for our medicine's. What about all the electrical cords, for the phones, the laptop, etc?
What about money? We have "money belts" but I'm afraid the zippers will set off alarms.
It's obvious we don't travel much, so any suggestions are very much appreciated. If you have a place for a "secret stash" and don't want everyone to know, please PM me.

I carry my laptop, phone and cords in my backpack. When you get to check in they require computer, laptops, ipad, etc. to be removed from bags and placed in a bin by itself to be scanned. So whether you put it in your carryon or tote, you will need it to be handy enough to remove at check-in. I carry my wallet in my backpack. It is pretty safe. I find it is easy to keep an eye on your things as they go through the scanner. Hope this is helpful.

I have a case my laptop & cords go in!! I carry it, take it out & put it out on the belt to be scanned!! I have never had a problem you see what is going on!! Good luck!!

Carry on your laptop - mostly so it doesn't get banged around. Put your phones in the same laptop carry-on.

I also put the cords & power supplies in the same laptop carry-on to save weight for the luggage - otherwise pack in your luggage.

Don't worry about the money belt zippers - after all, other clothing zippers don't set off alarms.

I travel all over the world on company business with my laptop in a standard Dell laptop case and I've never had any kind of a problem. In the same case I carry my Ipod with USB cord, my mobile phone as well as a Kindl Fire with cord. I also carry a charging station. Just remove the laptop at the TSA checkpoint and put it in its own bin, and you will be good to go. I've never had TSA ask to see any of my other electronic devices, but I've heard of people being asked to remove Kindls from their bag.

Thank you all for your replies. We'll see how this works out. I don't have a backpack, but I think I can make it accessable. I can't believe how much stuff we need for a 10 day visit! But I want to be able to keep up with all the great suggestions and ideas I get on TOTV as to places to eat and things to do. This is a great website for everything Villages!

When going through security you will have to put your laptop in a bin and if you have a wallet and change that too goes into a bin. Be absolutely sure that one of you goes through first so that he/she can be on the other end to watch your possessions as they terminate the conver belt. There is always lots of confusion at the end of the conveyer belt and that is where possessions can sometimes disappears. Don't put anything in your checked bag that is valuable. Be sure to wear socks as well because you will have to remove your shoes. Once you get to TV you'll be happy that you took the trip and then you will have to do it all over again on the way home.
