Default Texas Stockyard

This is a relatively new bar b q restaurant on 441 just south of 466. We have been there twice now and the food is great! Fall off the bone ribs, homemade jalapeño sausage (similar to Italian sausage). Took visitors there last week and they loved it as well. A new menu item is smoked wings that you can separate sections with a fork, now that is tender. Prices are very reasonable and they sell beer and wine. We will definitely be going back.

We went there yesterday. My wife ordered the sliced brisket platter and I ordered the dry and spicy ribs. My wife wanted a bun in place of the piece of bread so she could make a sandwich. They did not want to give it to her so I ordered the same bread so she could make a sandwich. The waitress seemed confused as to why she did not order the sandwich. We tried to explain that we wanted the sides. We do this at Sonny's all of the time.

What bothered me was that they gave us the sauce in one ounce cups. What is up with that? Sonny''s and Oakwood has squeeze bottles of sauce on the table. We got extra cups of sauce but it is not the same. After we finished eating I found out that they had other e sauces that the one they gave us. They had plain, spicy and mustard flavored.

I will remember for our next visit.

Other than that the food was good, the restaurant was clean and the service was great.

Default Baby Back Ribs

Last thread about them said they did not have baby backs. Is this correct?

This looks to be close to Oakwood which used to be our favorite BBQ (last visit earlier this week was a disappointment). How do they compare?

We had lunch there a couple of weeks ago. We both said we'd give it a 4 or a 5 out of 10. Not the worst we've had and certainly not close to the best. We'll give it another try. The prices weren't bad. The little tiny cup of sauce was strange, Z.

I've not been impressed with Oakwood. Average to me, but I know people who swear by it and think it is the best place around.

Does that mean that you got a squeeze bottle of sauce when you went there?

I had the dry run ribs so I assumed that I would get a bottle of sauce to soak them it. All they had was a squeeze bottle of catsup. At least that was what it looked like. It was red instead of a BBQ brown color.

I am okay with Oakwood but I prefer Sonny's because it is cart accessible and I have never had a bad meal there. Bad waitresses and noisy sitter/maitre d but never a bad meal.

We've been to Oakwood many times and love the fall off the bone ribs and their sides. However, last visit the ribs were a little tough and the mac and cheese was a little gummy. Saw a lot of new faces in the kitchen. Haven't given up on them yet. Maybe just a bad day....

I love Texas Stockyards. Could be because I'm from Houston and the owners are from Houston and have another location there. As for Oakwood, it's ok, but what's up with the sides. Not much variety. Also, no sausage at Oakwaood. Texas Stockyards imports their sausage from Texas. Also there must be 12 sides, hot and cold. I agree with the other comments about the silly little cups of sauce, however. I ask for extras and a little dish and I mix the original and spicy. As for baby back ribs, Mandy the owner said she will not be serving them. Too small and the beef ribs she smokes in the pit in the back of the resturant are wonderful. Two kinds - sweet & wet and spicy and dry rub. Try it. You'll like it.

Default Beef Ribs

We went to Texas Stockyard a couple of weeks ago. The waiter was very good, but the food was average at best. There was eight in our party, so we had a pretty good selection. I prefer Sonny's and Oakwood at this point, but we will try again to be fair.

I asked if they served beef short ribs, they said they did not. Does anyone know if there is a BBQ place that does beef short ribs?
