Default Care Centers (Nursing Homes) and Altzheimers

Can anyone recommend the best care facility near The Villages for my Dad who has Alzheimers and is going downhill rapidly? My husband and I are visiting him (we're from KS) and can see he needs more care than we can provide. Any information and help would be greatly appreciated since we are not from here. Thanks so much!

Try this website. It's a link to the State of Florida dept that manages nursing homes etc. I linked it to the page that shows nursing homes with 10 miles of The Villages. You can work your way through the site and get plenty of information. Then you can visit some of the facilities and go from there.

Thanks for responding bimmertl. I already accessed that site. I was hoping for something from personal experience. If someone has had either positive or negative experiences with specific nursing homes, or has a better idea for caring for an elderly parent with Altzeimer's, I would love to hear about it. You can contact me at deb.nielson@cox.net directly if you prefer to respond privately.

We recommend Freedom Pointe's Memory Care unit, across from the hospital on El Camino. Our mother was there for 3 years before she passed away. The care was just excellent, the staff members are wonderful. It's very small, only 13 rooms, so everyone gets lots of attention.

We checked out Freedom Point's Memory care facility for my aunt. We were quite impressed. At the time, we felt she wasn't quite at the point for their care, but if she was, it would have been a strong contender. They are pricey, but the old addage, you get what you pay for. My aunt ended up in Arbor Care for a few months. Was totally unimpressed with the facility and care and was hoping to get her out of there before she passed. She ended up passing there and to this day, we feel bad about that.
