My house is a little over two years old so I called the original installer due to not being able to program the home-link buttons on a new car I just purchased. He instantly referred to a unit on the door frame outside. I told him I did not have one and there appeared to be no "Learner" button on the head. He said I would not be programming any buttons with that configruation, so I thanked him very much and hung up. He offered no other option or solution, so I am looking for a ecommendation for same. I found some recommendations for RoMac, but certainly am not going to deal with them. Customer service doesn't seem to be in their vocabulary. If it requires a completely new installation I'll use my portable MVP buttons and forget it. Not sure if there should have been a button outside or not, but I'll be checking my neighbors tonight when I do my daily walk. In the mean time I;ll go back and search for a repairman that can handle the job. Any other suggestions??

If you could give me the make and model number of the garage door opener, I am sure we can find "online documentation" for programming the home-link buttons on your new car.

Just need to know what garage door opener we are working with....

I would give home warranty and ask them what their records show regarding an opener on the outside of your garage. If they say yes,tell them it was never installed. Can't hurt to call.

I bought my house two weeks ago and had trouble like you. Wasted over an hour trying to program it. Then I decided to get my car's owner manual out and read it. What mine said was, clear all old codes from the home link by holding certain buttons in the car. When that was clear push your bottom on the receiver of the garage unit & within 30 seconds push and hold the button on your car link. Then bingo.

I found my learner button by the light bulb under the plastic cover. Wasn't on the back like most. Most all work the same.

Thanks for all of the help, good ideas, many of which I have tried. I even looked on Amazon for a door unit and they all seem to be wireless now, so that wasn't the answer. I'm going to call warrtanty, though they have been next to useless in similar matters since ther 365th day passed. I have done this a couple of times and there was always a "Learn" button. This one does not have one on the outside or the inside (I removed the cover to check). Seems as if the developer or contractor opted for the cheap way out. Could be I opted for the cheap way out too, when I signed on the dotted line, I've slept since then....... Thanks again, all good ideas.

I had to get a ladder to find my button it was recessed in light bulb compartment. Where is your opener book?

I have more documentation than I have $, it is the lack of a learner button on the head that is the matter. Apparently the buttons I need are on the wall unit,thats what all of the documentation says as well as RoMac, and that is what I do not have. I did call warranty, explained my delimma to them and I await a return call..

Neighbor across the street had her 2 1/2 year old RoMac replaced this week. The motor went out. Door openers should last 8-10 years. Most of the other neighbors have Chamberlin.

I rented a house earlier that had a RoMac and it was hard to keep the hand held openers programmed. They didn't use a learn button. You pointed at the unit and pushed the three buttons in a certain sequence for 6 or 8 digits. Not seen this before. I didn't try to program my car to it since it was a temporary.

I have a Chrysler minivan with home-link. All I needed to do was take the remote into the car, get into the home-link option on the car's overhead computer and hold the button on the remote while holding a button on the car's overhead computer. I didn't have to look for or use a learn button on the actual garage door opener.

My learn button was on the wall unit. In fact, it wasn't really a button. I had a small hole in the middle of the unit that I was able to "push" with a paper clip. I was not able to program the Home-link in my car since I already had all 3 buttons programmed. When I move down permanently, I will erase all the old codes and then program my car.

If you're trying to program the home link, in your car, you don't need to program your garage door opener... You car is supposed to learn the garage door opener code to open your door. I have done this several times and there are 2 kinds of garage door openers...one with a static security code and one that has rolling codes. If your door opener has rolling security codes, then you need to have that learn button on the garage door opener. If your opener is a static code opener, then you just need to follow the procedure in your cars owners manual. Normally entails putting your CAR in learn mode and pressing the garage door opener remote somewhere close to a transmitter on your car. For my car, it was close to the right front headlight.

I also live in St. Charles and have the MVP opener. It's a static code opener, so I suspect that is what you have too.
