Carl Bell is running against incumbent Don Burgess for Board of County Commissioners District 3 in the primary Election tomorrow, August 14, 2012.

Bell's website says he is for "Maintaining the beauty of the district properties". But, as a chairman of the Amenities Authority Committee, he voted not to enforce the covenanted deed restriction against signs. Unless the Developer enforces the restriction, all kinds of signs could be placed in resident's yards, not just real estate signs but political signs and commercial signs.

I think this is very poor judgement on Mr. Bell's part and I will vote for the incumbent, Don Burgess.

I only wish I'd posted sooner about Carl Bell. Today IS election day and I'm afraid this thread won't be seen by enough people. I could carry a sign to the polling place, I suppose, but I don't have any? It is so obvious to me that the Districts must enforce the deed restriction on signs north of CR 466. The Developer didn't and we had as many as 3 real estate signs on my short street (Gooding Place) at one time. The deed restriction was in place, of course. We all signed one when we moved here, but that didn't matter.

I was very pleased to see that someone besides me was appalled at Carl Bell's vote NOT TO ENFORCE the deed restriction on signs in The Villages as Chairman of the AAC.

The margin was so great, I didn't need to campaign today, but I feel good having done it and the results of the election where Burgess more than doubled Bell's vote.


I can't attribute Bell's loss entirely on his failure to vote to enforce the deed restriction, as Burgess is a very competent county supervisor, but I feel the margin is at least partly due to Bell's stance on the non-enforcement of the deed restriction, which reflects negatively on his jugdgement.

Correct. But, at least Bell will only be able to influence one government body.

my avatar pic happens to be the coast of jersey - the ladder in the pic scales a wall approx 10' - 12' in height that prevents the ocean from intruding on the oceanfront homes along that area of the coast! it provides access to the 'private' beachfront of the photo. imagine owning beachfront property and not being able to see it from the first floor!

Air Base in Wilmington. Went to school in Wilmington where I first learned that "DamnYankee" was not 2 words. Great place to grow up and play on the beach. In those days the sidewalk was made of boards and few homes.
