The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club is a residents-only club dedicated to providing a forum to share common interests in all forms of motor racing. Many members are NASCAR fans, but members are equally interested in the local racing venues so prevalent in Florida, as well as radio-controlled car racing.
The next regular meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Colony Cottage Rec Center, starting at 7:00 pm. You will have the opportunity to see two club members in action as they provide an enlightening overview of the inner workings of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The next meeting of The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club will be Nov. 7 at Colony Cottage Recreation Center, going green at 7:00 p.m.
It's gonna be another great one, featuring a visit from Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala) officials Ken Snyder and Joe Dirt. Many club members are regulars at the Ocala speedway (especially when Buzzie Reutimann is racing there), and we look forward to hearing from representatives of the management team that runs the shows! The June 5 meeting of The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club will be at Colony Cottage Recreation Center, going green at 7 p.m.
The meeting will feature a visit from Devin McLeod, a rising young star on the Florida racing circuit. As is the case with most of the younger drivers these days, at age 19 Devin already sports an 11-year racing career, starting in Champ Carts in 2002, then moving to Mini-Cup Cars in 2006, then Legends Cars in 2009, Pro Late Models in 2012, and Super Late Models in 2013. Along with Devin, will be car-owner Dick Anderson and his legendary No. 92 for a close-up look at this beautiful, recently-built Mustang Super Late Model. Devin has driven this car in competition over at Citrus County Speedway on two occasions. The August meeting of The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club will be Wednesday, August 7 at Colony Cottage Recreation Center, going green at 7 p.m.
Find out how to satisfy your need for speed without leaving your house. The speakers will be Mark Lutes from Fast Track Sims, along with club member David Vanderwall. The September meeting of The Villages Motor Racing Ran Club will be Sept. 4 at Colony Cottage Recreation Center, going green at 7:00 pm.
The guest speakers will be Villagers Elaine Harrold and Jane Routte. They both lived in Speedway, Ind., home of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They will have insightful stories about the history of the track and the exciting "Month of May" race activities. They were featured in a Daily Sun article published prior to this year's Indianapolis 500. Another guest will be Villager Pennie Whitt, author of Driving My Dream, a book about her racing son and grandson. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing. |

The next monthly meeting of The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club will be Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Colony Cottage Recreation Center, going green at 7:00 pm.
This is gonna be a special one! The main speaker is Ocala native "No Brake Jake" Perkins. This young up-and-coming driver has raced go k.a.r.t.s, Bandoleros and Legends. He is currently racing a FUPS Super Late Model. Joining Perkins is his crew chief, Shawn Reutimann. We expect them to bring Jake's Super Late Model for an up-close-and-personal look. The club also has an opportunity to hear from Bill John, president of the Classic Race Boat Association. We first met Bill in April when he and his wife introduced the club to the exciting world of classic boat racing. Bill returns to tell us more about the upcoming Tavares Fall Thunder Vintage Regatta on Lake Dora at Wooton Park. Bill plans to bring a classic boat for our enjoyment. Our main speaker is John Peters who will bring us up to speed on the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental improved highway for automobiles across the United States. We will also hear from Joe Wigley who will fill us in on the exciting Inverness Grand Prix and Motorsports Festival which will be held Nov. 22-23, 2013. This will be an interesting meeting! Joining us will be the new owner of Citrus County Speedway, Gary LaPlant. We're looking forward to meeting him and gaining insight into CCS' operation and their plans for our "home track." We will also have a chance to meet a colorful driver who competes regularly at CCS in Street Stocks, Dora Thorne. We look forward to hearing how Dora got started in racing, and listening to some of her stories about racing at CCS. To whomever monitors this thread, you might want to delete the old messages stating when the next meeting is scheduled, this is very confusing until you notice the posting date.
Just my thoughts, I did find the link very useful, and that was when I realized the next meeting was Wednesday May 7th, I hope to make it.
