Does anyone have information regarding how late pool pumps are allowed to run???? It seems that at one time someone mentioned to me that pool pumps must not run past 9 PM.

Not sure of the time ruling. However, if you're referring to a neighbor's pool, you may wish to inform them that running a pool pump at night is unnecessary. Among other things, a pool pump helps control or eliminate algae in the pool. Since algae needs the Sun to grow and there is no Sun at night, what's the point of running the pump. Of course, on occasion, a homeowner will run the pump overnight due to a major chemical treatment. Other than that, they're just wasting their money and putting unnecessary strain on the pump and neighbors, too.

I've read the restrictions for most districts, and never noticed any restriction on pool pumps. Might be worth a call to community standards, and/or a talk with your neighbor.

I doubt there is a time constraint on pool pumps running. The reason is that if you are heating your pool or spa, the pump needs to run to circulate the water, as it's being heated.

To answer a couple of questions, Yes the pump is much louder than an air conditioner. The pool is large by Villages standards 20 X40. Unfortunately we are not on the best of terms with the particular pool owner neighbor. We just feel that we could enjoy evenings much more on our Lanai if the loud pump wasn't running constantly. Well, so be it I guess, we will surrvive.

Being our pool is new, the pump is running 24 hours a day and will continue until the chemical shock and acid put in the pool does it's job. That should be about a week or a little more.

Our pool pump is right next to the wall outside our master bedroom, and although we can slightly hear it, we don't even realize its running if were not thinking about it. I feel it's definitely quieter than the air conditioner unit but that's not to say that Warren's neighbor's pump is the same way.

From everything I've been reading on several sites found by a Google search about running the pump, it's shouldn't need to run more than 12 hours a day. It pretty much ranges from a minimum of 4 to 6 hours and depends on the time of year (winter being less time than summer) and running it at night does little if any good. The best time to be running the pump is when it's exposed to the sun. Generally it takes about 4 hours for the pool water to completely recycle, depending on other factors of course.

Sounds to me like Warren's neighbor may just be wasting energy and his own money by letting it run after the sun goes down!

could also be a failing electric motor (not pump but motor). They can be loud (chattering) if going bad. Have repaired many with the same symptoms.

We closed on our new designer on June 18. When we arrived on July 4 and walked into the lanai we heard loud pool pump motor from the house next door. It was so loud that we would never be able to sit on our lanai until the pump went off (after 10-hours). The neighbors were back up north and everyone agreed that it was making a racket. We even called our sales agent to see what he could do.
After a week or no relief, our sales agent told us to call T&D Pools and see if we could get some insight. I called, found out that the neighbor was on their weekly "pool service" and the woman told me over the phone that that house was getting a new pool pump motor that day! Everything is nice and quiet now.
