Unhappy Paint Disposal

How do I dispose of latex paint. I have a 5 gallon bucket half full on latex paint and the trash pickup guys do not take it on trash day.

There is a legal "dump" in the area. Take 466 towards 441. Turn right at the lights at Rolling Acres. Approximately two/three miles along you will see a small sign on the right hand side of the road for Recycling Station. Shortly after the sign you will see a dirt road on the left hand side. Drive in there. It is the cleanest recycling station I have ever seen. Just inside the gates on the left hand side there are various "stations" set up for hazardous materials. They take paint, batteries, you name it. Plus, the employees are the most polite people I have ever met at a "dump".

I have been stopped once when a Town Inspector was there and asked if I live in Lady Lake!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course I do.

You may also be able to donate it to Habilitat if it is still good to use.

you can mix cat litter into it to harden it or you can leave the lid off for a long while and let it harden on its own. Dried paint is dispossible.

I thought of that but there is not enough paint in the bucket to paint a door.

I will talk with the trash hauler about the kitty litter idea.

I'm confused about "Lady Lake". Isn't The Villages also considered Lady Lake since much of my mail is addressed Lady Lake? Even sometimes when ordering something online, I give my zipcode and it comes up Lady Lake for them and I have said The Villages. I'm in the process of painting and need to dispose of some paint cans and was happy to see this thread but need this explained. Thanks.

The villages is in 3 counties. Lake, Marion, Sumter. Residence determines which county provides services.

Here's an article about how to dispose of paint. It mentions tha kitty litter idea.
Add kitty litter (or shredder paper) , let dry, then scoop out and put in regular garbage.

How to Properly Dispose of Paint

And here's a link to where you can bring the paint(Sumter and Marion Counties)
It's a great website for when you want to recycle anything.
