Default fire ant mounds

Have you noticed the fire ant mounds popping up along Morse blvd? Everyday more of them are appearing. Is The Villages doing anything to these when they appear? I went to google and read about them, they are nasty little buggers. Just be careful if you run across one of the mounds, they can cause serious stings which last for two weeks. Keep pets and kids away from them if you spot a mound.

Who is responsible for the outside road grounds, the pool area problems?

Gary Morse himself goes around at night and sprays the fire ant mounds. He has been doing this for years. He is a thoughtful guy and hard working and is paid well for it. (I am KIDDING.)

When the fire ants mound...and I can't remember when they arrive, they mound everywhere and it is very wise to be aware of them because the folks who get rid of them can't seem to stay ahead of them.

I was weeding in our plant beds last year and got stung several times. Apparently the first stinging ant shouts out "enemy" and everyone piles on.
No matter what you do to the bites...and people will tell you all kinds of remedies, they continue itching and burning for days.

So step carefully. Far worse than dog poop.

Amdro is the best I've found (so far) for killing these nasty critters around the home.
But, as yet, nobody has a perfect solution.

This stuff is excellent. Sprinkle it over the top of the mound and LEAVE IT ALONE. The ants come up and take it down and feed it to the queen, slowly over time you will see the mound die back.

Do not poke, dig into or in any way disturb the nest, you will only get them excited and moving around to make other mounds.

We keep a jug of Amdro in our garage all the time. But when we got our pest control company, we asked them to put down treatment over the whole yard. I haven't seen any in our yard yet. But in Hunter's Creek I had the whole back yard in butterfly garden, and I had many run-ins with fireants, because I wore sandals while I was weeding....I became more careful over the years! ItchX works great by the way.

I just saw all the mounds on Morse Blvd. Boy, they are popping up like crazy. Does the Villages spray for them, or what?

Pictures of Gopher Tortoise mounds. You aren't allowed to mess with them. They are protected. We played several times some time ago at Saddlebrook and I kept wondering why some of the ground crews didn't remove the fire ant hills. They were all in row and then someone pointed out to me that they were Gopher Tortoise mounds and that you had to leave them stand because the Gopher Tortoise is a protected species. They look different than fire ant hills but you could get them confused I guess.

I want everyone to love life her in TV. Fire ants included ,,,, when I go to wal mart I get a panckage of JollyRanchers and try to put one on each mound each day it makes thoe little redheaded bugs soooo happy! Me and Johnny bubbles try to make the round to each mound, we have found they really eat the grape flavored ones the best,,, they seem to turn there little noses up to the cherry flavored ones....
