Default Unclaimed Money

A couple of years ago I read in the Maine newspaper that there is "unclaimed money & property" sitting in state treasury accounts. Intrigued, I searched it out and found my name (in the State of Maine) and claimed $300. Since then I've found friends and family monies they didn't know they had. It's simply to do - google "unclaimed property search & claim" - put in the state(s) you've lived in and see if you or someone you know could be a lucky recipient! It's very easy to claim and you will receive a check from the respective Treasury or an email stating the records do not match. If you find money, respond and let us know. Now, if you'd like to donate a bag of dog food to the sanctuary I volunteer at with your new found money, send me a PM! Good luck and have fun!!!

When my mom passed away a number of years back, I did a search on both her and my dad's names (who had predeceased her). My dad was pretty organized about 'important papers' and the like - I figured he'd have had it all covered. Turned out my mom had an old life insurance policy under her maiden name that we never ran across, taken out when she was very young and first out on her own. I had to produce some documentation which linked her to that name and the address shown on the policy when it was taken out, etc. And if I'm not mistaken, the state of OH paid a nominal amount of interest on the amount as well dating back to when the funds were turned over to them by the insurance company.

Even though the amount of the policy was only something like $500, it was quite an interesting discovery and process!

Agree. Friday I found my sister's mother and father in-law who passed away probably 10 years ago now, at least. I also found my son-in-law who had lived in Millis, MA 5 years ago, he had monies waiting. And then I found 3 former employers, 2 friends, and my sister-in-law who lives in CA - she has 6 claims waiting. These were all from about a 1 hour search Friday....the list goes on but I won't bore people with the details. Amazing.

And I'm going to suggest they donate that bag of doggie food to the sanctuary, ha!

As my Mom grew older and her memory failing she apparently neglected to renew a CD. sure enough we discovered this tidy sum in the state's unclaimed retrieved it and reinvested it for her.

Many corporations that issue checks have what usually is termed abondoned property wherein people never seemed to have cashed their check.

Did a search for Iowa where I was born and raised and Illinois where I have lived since 1979. Found no money for myself, but I did find $202 for one of my cousins in Iowa. I called my dad and told him to let my cousin know about in case she is not aware of it. She lives on disability income, and $202 could probably come in handy for her. Thanks for the link.

Thanks Deb! This is great! Found some for my son, when he was in college. Found some for my Dad-that will take a little more effort as he passed in 05. Haven't found any for me yet.

Default Me too

Last year I got a call from my daughter who told me that my SIL found unclaimed money in my name in NY state. I went through the paperwork and received $3,320. I gave 10% to the son-in-law as a finder's fee. Happiness all around.
