Exclamation Car on golfcart trail!

Just tooling along on the trail going south off Buena Vista, just before the street leading to Lake Sumpter Landing. Imagine my surprise meeting a new BMW coming my way! My husband called out to alert the driver and he immediately realized where he was, was embarrassed and said he is so used to making that turn onto the trail when driving his golfcart, he just automatically did it this time. As carts backed up in shock, he slowly navigated back down and out, then went on his way. Best be careful out there folks!

Yesterday while going down to Brownwood and their Farmer's Market we saw a mid-sized vehicle on the golf cart trail. Where he got on, we don't know but we do know he "had" to have gone through a tunnel to be there. He too was headed to Brownwood. I can see making the mistake but to actually go a distance on one...not so much!

The longer one lives here, you will see this happen from time to time. Strange how habits can become "mind-less".

So nice when a Villager flips off another and then thinks he "took care of the situation".

Cars mistakenly entering onto golf cart paths unfortunately is a normal occurrence. People frightened, angered, fearful of other rivers who cause near accidents often reveal their middle finger. I do profess that I am not one to do so, nor do I swear. Its just not me. However, I do understand why some folks find that gestut to be almost automatic... and I defend their right to express themselves. However, I also do not agree with them

I am glad that you do not agree with the middle finger salute as being appropriate. I, however, do not defend their right to do that. Imagine if you were riding in your car or cart and a driver did that to your wife who was driving. It would make me just as angry as though he verbally said those words to my wife in my presence. How about you?

I saw a car down at the bottom of the golf cart hill trying to make left turn into the tunnel from polo ridge to saddlebrook. Right down at the bottom of the Hawkes bay Exec Course.

You know this thread seems funny, but I'm afraid it isn't. We have lots of folks driving in this community that should not be. Unfortunately, you don't wake up one morning and realize, "Well, I have to stop driving today." And your loved ones can't tell it that easily either. You really have to be losing some cognitive function to drive on a cart path, and unfortunately in a battle of a 4,000 pound car, all other inhabitants of those paths will lose the battle.

This is a difficult problem all over. Our particular community has a very high average age. Our particular accident is people driving through shop windows, thinking their foot is on the brake when it is on the gas. We have lots of diagonal parking downtown.

It is so hard to take away the keys, and that problem has to be 10 fold in TV, just because of the average age. So my advice, as mean as this seems, take down the tag numbers of people you see driving on paths and report it to the sheriff. Not community watch, but law enforcement. These folks, even though they may be lovely neighbors, will hurt someone or themselves. Think of all the lakes and ponds around the area.

Not the first time or the last I'm sure. Guess they need to stick more poles in the cart paths at the entrances. Does detour cars if they hit it

So far in 3 years I have seen 2 cars on the golf cart bridge, ironically both Toyota Prius'. Talk about scary!! Imagine coming over the top of the bridge in your cart and being greeted by the grill of a car!

Both elderly ladies, well over 90 and neither should have been driving a car!!

I am amazed how many folks will give up driving an automobile, but think nothing of then getting behind the wheel of a golf cart. The problem is that golf carts are not regulated; just today on Canal Street I passed by a golf cart, but matched his speed to see how fast he was going...it was 24 mph and he was going up a hill. The regulation is 19 mph....I think that excess speed needs to be enforced. I would also lik eto see all golf carts that are owned and operated in The Villages have some sort of 'registration' and identification. Please don't tell me about too much government intervention. Since we will not take care of this as individuals it is up to the entire community to make it happen.
