This is our first winter in our new house, we have to go back to Michigan to
sell our house, then we will be full time here in TV. When we leave, if we are gone all summer, do we let our fans run on low all the time, or just set the air at 82, and leave the fans off. I would like to know what other people
do for the summer

We just set the air at 82F and leave the fans off. Make sure all your AC vents are open and closet doors are left open as well.

We watch a couple of houses for friends. One has a humidistat that will turn on the air when the humidity gets above say 60%. He leaves his air set at 82 degrees and it doesn't smell musty.

We have another friend with no humidistat and he set his air at 82 degrees. When we checked on the house it was smelling musty on the days that the humidity was really high. We had to turn his air down to 80 degrees to remove the musty smell and left it at 80 for the rest of the summer. I can't say what is the correct way, just something to think about. Of course it is important to have someone watch the house and check for things such as this.

I've talked to many heating and AC people on this subject and electric motor guys. I've alway been told to put the furnace/AC fan switch to run and forget about it. I lived in. My last house 12 years and my current house 19 years and only turn the fan off to change filter. I've never replace a furnace motor. They tell me the start up is what eventually kills the motor. Just a thought.

...1... Ceiling fans ON LOW Speed. (we run ours 24/7 anyway).
...............rotating CLOCKWISE, when viewed from below.
This allows air to blow UPWARD to keep ceiling free of mold,
and helps moving air to catch the room corners.
.................mold, generally can not form where air is moving.

...2... Six (or more) Gallons of White Vinegar, strategically placed where they
won't get kicked over. We simply remove the caps. ($3 per gallon)

...3...Four 5 gallon pails ( about 1/3 full ) with charcoal placed in each one.
.................................................O NE twenty pound bag will do the trick.

...4... Notify Home-Watch person.

...5...We set A/C to 81 and Heat to 56.
.............Furnace FAN set to RUN at all times while gone.
.....................This keeps mold from forming IN ductwork.

We are from Woodhaven, about 25 miles south of Detroit, right off 1-75,
about 40 miles from the ohio border

Of course the electrician would recommend you run your fans, he will be glad to replace them for you too. Humidistat is the way to go.
