Been there and my cousin owns a house there. I think the red tide is only a problem in the gulf.

On somewhat rare occurrences, the Atlantic coast of Fla will get red tide. It will happen when the Gulf gets an exceptionally bad outbreak, it is swept throu the Fla Straits and the Gulf Stream pulls it north up the coast.
Indianatlantic is a nice little mostly residential coastal community. It is located at the end of the Melbourne Causeway from Melbourne Fl. Oddly, Melbourne Beach is about 2-3 miles south. I have surfed, swam and played there many, many times .... nice area. |

I had the WONDERFUL opportunity to live in Indialantic from 1961 - 1968 and absolutely loved living there. My family lived on Tampa Avenue about 3 blocks from the ocean side of the Island. Indialantic has managed to avoid much of the over building that has ruined most of Florida's coastal towns. Would be there now if i hadn't bought in TV. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been there yet.

Back in the 1980's a friend of mine was stationed at Patrick AFB and lived in a lovely home in Indialantic. I visited him several times. We always went fishing and had a great time. At that time it was a pleasant place in just about every way. I hope it still is.

We've lived in Melbourne since I retired from the Air Force in 1994. I was stationed at Patrick AFB twice and fell in love with the area. Its still a very nice area with very limited traffic problems. No fighter mission at Patrick for many years now though so you won't have that noise. We plan to move to TV in a year or so when I retire (again) primarily for all the activities. If that really doesn't interest you, this area would probably suit your needs very well. It is not a tourist area. The closest to that would be a few miles up the road in the Cocoa Beach area. We have been to visit TV a couple of times already and it is only about a 90 minute drive for me so if I want to come back to visit friends/go to Patrick, etc., it's not that far. We also have the snowbird season here so the traffic getsa bit worse, golf rates go up and the wait at restaurants increases but not really that big of a deal.

Lived in a condo on the beach from 2002 - 2006, and we had red tide once during that period. Very irritating to the nasal passages, and everyone was coughing all the time.....lasted at least 6 weeks. It's a nice uncongested area if you want to live on the beach.

My friends live in IndiaAtlantic and I have visited them a few times since I moved here 2 years ago. They are snowbirds and go north in summer. I loved it. Very pretty area. Great restaurants. Close to shopping -- not sure if it is in india atlantic or melbourne... great sites to go to with visitors near by. I really like the convenience of The Villages but if I were to move I certainly would put it on my must check out list.
