Just curious to see if anyone else has people cutting through their lawns/yards as a "short-cut." We have walkers, people on bikes, etc. cutting through. I greet the person, as I'm alerted by our dog that a stranger is by our home. I'll say things like, Hi, Can I help you? Did you lose something on our lawn? The response is something like, Oh no-just taking a short cut to the mailbox, or to Odell Rec. Center. I hate to be the get off our lawn type of person, but there are issues with this. What if the person falls? The bicycle leaves tracks, etc, etc....?
What do you all think? |

A simple - but elegant - sign in the yard saying not to cross the property should do the trick.
A paintball gun also would work wonders. Punji stakes have been known to deter trespassers. Do not forget the cotton headed ninny muggin warning, too. |

Get yourself some Motion Activated Sprinklers and enjoy the show.

That says it all.
I don't know what people are thinking when they cut through yards. |

How about a hedge of some type planted in the appropriate pathway?

We've had that problem in Mallory with a certain tennis player who likes to cut through yards and the Mallory Country Club Caroline golf course on his bike. IT IS TRESPASSING according to the Sumter County Sheriff's office. We've identified him and reported him to Community Watch, the golf course manager, and most importantly to Deputy Richard Bennett of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office at Morse & 466, who is very receptive to our complaint. Deputy Bennett now regularly cruises our neighborhood both in his cruiser and private vehicle at the approximate times when he goes or comes home from tennis. Our case # is 2013-024239.

So has this stopped him or has he figured out a different time to trespass?

Seems to be working so far but we're still keeping an eye open when his schedule calls for it. Happens mostly on Monday & Wednesday since his tennis dates went from Tuesday & Thursday.
By the way, we had signs but they were not allowed by covenants, shrubs can't be put in because of the easement between houses, and we did put up a small barricade which he moved. We've toyed with the automatic sprinkler idea but it doesn't come on fast enough. |
