Default OK!! I Finally saw it for myself :)

After 3 years and over 7,000 miles in my golf cart, I finally saw it for myself first hand. Read about it several times on TOTV, but until today, never experienced this.

Driving south from LSL to my home in Pennecamp on the Golf Cart Path along Buena Vista between Stillwater and the Lake Miona Rec Center, I was following another golf cart when he stopped abruptly. I stopped behind him wondering what the problem was and why he stopped for no apparent reason.

Well, there was a reason, a 4,000 pound reason. There was someone driving a Ford Explorer zipping along his merry way northbound towards Stillwater on the golf cart path.

Really??

That is a nightmare! I hope one of you got his license plate number and reported them. Drunk or senile are the only reasons I can think of for a person doing that.

Elderly unsafe drivers can be reported confidentially to the state DMV as outlined here:
Official Website Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

I don't know how a big SUV like that could even get ONTO the cart path there!

Thank goodness the driver was able to see the truck coming and didn't meet him by surprise on a curve or hilltop.

Actually, when traveling West on Odell towards Lake Miona the cart path to the right just before the gate is pretty wide and does not have a clear marker that it is meant for carts only. Last year as we were headed in the same direction as the OP we met a full size van who saw the tunnel and realized they were on the cart path. We had to stop while she turned around!

Default Put up the poles!

I can't understand why someone doesn't put those white poles in the middle of all golf cart paths so vehicles cannot drive on them? Seems like a simple solution to me.

Glad you're ok. It happened to us on the golf cart path south of 466A on Buena Vista just before gate for Gilchrist. We're tooling along after golf to go to Bonifay for dinner last Friday night and there coming at us was a white van. We're waving and yelling for the driver to stop and he waves back, smiling and keeps going on the path. My husband jumped out of the cart and chased him and he turned around at the bend in the path. He evidently came out of Pinellas and took a right at the gate instead of thru the gate to the circle and then right onto Buena Vista. There is no post in the middle of the path before the gate. Very scary.

Happened Friday mornng on the cart path along 466A. Woman driving east on the path in a white SUV. When she passed us at the tunnel she didn't look one bit frazzled by it. That's quite a drive on the path from the Panellas gate area. lol

I've seen some of the white poles knocked down! Probably by people trying to squeeze their SUVs onto multi modal paths!

I've twice seen Smartcars driving merrily along multi modal paths. Perhaps the owners consider Smartcars to be one of the acceptable modes.

Here is an idea I thought of often when I see about 75%+ of the poles bent or kncked down. btw.. How did Sweetbays pole get crunched at the top? hmm.
Anyway. not to steal the thread but perhaps a suggestion to the CDD about changing the poles to having a spring mounted in the ground and attached to the pole. That way the cart would hit the pole, not damage the pole, and PROBABLY not damage the cart as bad either. Less money to fix them too.
Possibly that could be incorporated with the gate poles somehow too. But make it so it leaves a mark on the car that can be taken off eventually, but so people than can't just bump the gate and keep going. Saves on gate expenses too?

That is scary. My experience last night was not as dangerous but stupid just the same. Golf cart drove up to front door of RJ Gators. Parked, left his poodle in cart on leash and went inside.

I saw the same thing awhile back. Was all set to say something, but the guy
helped his wife out of the cart. She was severely mobility impaired. Glad I waited, I would have felt like a fool.
