Default Questions for Cigar Smokers

I will start with a basic assumption that you are aware that while many people enjoy the smell of a cigar, many others find it offensive and very unpleasant. So here are my questions....why do you smoke a cigar in a public area when you know you will be offending a bunch of people? Why do you feel it is ok to discard your chewed up stub of a cigar on the street or even on the golf course? I am really hesitant to ask these questions and know I will probably get flamed, but I am curious about the mindset that lets people do this.

No law against smoking in the open air (outside) public. I don't like second hand smoke, but Ask someone outside to not smoke is rude and I don't duck as fast as I used too, they have rights also. As far as trashing I also agree smoking butts should be disposed of properly. But add that to the other zillion laws that are broke in public areas.

I smoke mostly at home in the back yard with a beverage. The rare times I smoke on the golf course I throw the but in the trash. Three or four times a year when Garvinios has a cigar event I smoke there with other afficenados. Don't smoke in the squares other than the few times I sit outside at Garvinios.

Thank you for being considerate at the squares. Many cigar smokers could not care less how they drive out other people.

Those with asthma, allergies and COPD are also truly sickened by cigar smoke. No, it is not against the law but can be very harmful to some.

It's very easy- smoke downwind of a crowd and carry a small wide mouthed plastic screw-top bottle half filled with water. ( like an sport's drink disposable GatorAid kind of bottle)
When you are done, put the stub in the bottle and screw the top.
You can keep it in the golf car til it gets filled, then toss it safely in a garbage can.

No smell from butts.
I have used this often at backyard parties- in designated smoker's spots marking the tops with an X (magic marker) so everyone knows what they are.
No one minds being asked to use them.

I am still a moderate cigarette smoker at present. I take a bottle with me if I am out somewhere for the day and go off to have my fix. It's just a courtesy to others.

It is nice to see there are those that are considerate of others. It is really bad for those with asthma, or sensitivity to smoke from cigarettes or cigars (I am one) plus for many just the smell can trigger an awful headache.

I will start by saying I am not a smoker. I also do not drink but I see people at the square drinking, some become obnoxious, why because they can. Why do people discard their pet waste (when they do) in public trash cans as to stink up the mail stop and rec centers after the feces spends a day in the heat, because they can.

Barry the answer is rude and inconsiderate people do as they please not as you wish.

I agree that cigars and cigarettes smell bad but if you are going to outlaw bad smells, put perfumes on that list! I've been in restaurants and on airplanes basically trapped next to someone that smells like they have dumped a gallon of stinky perfume on themselves. Yeuccch!

sounds to me like an ax to grind on cigar smokers.....how come not a word about the much, MUCH more significant number of inconsiderate cigarette smokers?????

These folks believe the world is their ash tray.....just look around. You will find easily cigarette butts almost anywhere you look.......and a long long look to find a cigar butt.

Cigarette smokers outnumber cigar smokers 227.6 gazillion to one!!!!!!!

And as usual we are all talking about the very, VERY small percentage of either cigar or cigarette smokers that are inconsiderate. Consitently ignoring the facts the the majority are in fact considerate of their surroundings and what the do with the butts. And as usual the majority takes a hit for the isolated offenders.

I am all for smoking a good cigar ANYWHERE that is not a non smoking area.

Cigarettes stink as they are a conglomeration of tobacco, chenicals and paper burning. A good cigar is tobacco burning. And I am no way trying to solicit or change anyone's mind on what they like or do not like. I am probably creating confusion by adding the ingredient many do not like....the facts.
