Default Black Friday

Just when you thought you heard everything about Black Friday here is one for you. Here in Akron Ohio they are already starting to line up at Best Buy. One guy set up a tent on Monday and another soon after him. Now this is not Florida and it does get cold at night and one person has to stay with the tent at all times. Temps will be in the 20's at night and don't forget about the rain wen the temps are over 32. Rain is predicted later this week along with some snow. The guys have generators, lap tops, TV's, microwave and game counsels.

Not my way to spend a week camping.

Black Friday is something thought by big business to make people think that they are getting a bargain when they are not and they rake in the big bucks for items that will go on sale two weeks later.

Not worth it.

Each year I am absolutely astounded by the people that go out shopping on Black Friday. I stay away from the stores as much as possible on that day.

I wish everyone would refuse to shop on Thanksgiving. In our area, many stores open at 8:00 PM and remain open until midnight Friday. If people wouldn't shop until Friday, the stores would not be open. Can't blame the stores. They do what the customer wants. I feel sorry for those that have to work and not be able to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Who watches the contents of the tent while the shopper is in the store? I guess you have to have a pretty good friend or family member to get up at the crack of dawn and come protect the generator and microwave!

There must be some element of adventure in doing this. Otherwise it's just... ridiculous.

That's what I believe too.

Is nothing sacred anymore?

At this age STUFF just doesn't do it for me...

They have to tear the tents, etc. down a certain time before the store opens and then can sit in camp chairs, but no cover. BTW -- Many of them are simply in line to sell their spot or their tickets for items to someone who is way back in line. The bargain can become quite costly this way and a nice profit for the guy camping out right now.

I know it's strange, but I like shopping on Black Friday. Not a lot -- usually in and out in one hour, but watching the crowds and the looks of joy if they manage to pick up what they want. (Really don't like the looks of disappointment when they don't get it.)

At least at the two Best Buy stores that I go to they hand out a coupon or sheet of paper for the hot ticket items to those in line even before the doors are open. This will guarantee that the person will get the item they are looking for. They never give out more coupons than merchandise on hand.
Regardless I will not be there or anyway near a mall.

Heard on a radio station in VT that this Friday will be Black Friday as well as next week too. I've heard retailers are skittish and want to start a bit early this year.

I think that camping out two weeks in advance is hair brained. No deal is worth doing that.

That said, however, I love shopping on Black Friday. We leave at 4 in the morning, go to a 24 hour diner for breakfast and then go shopping. I can't wait actually !!!!

I do agree that the stores should not be open on Thanksgiving though.
