Going through a late family's belonging I discovered a metal disc identified as a "voice record" from a deceased family member who was serving in World War II.
Seeking help in identifying what this disc is and how it can be listened to? To assist in seeking responses the voice record disc has the following in-scripted on it: Voice Recording Automat Inc. U&I Inc. 350 Fifth Ave. N.Y. Through courtesy of Pepsi Cola Please only serious responses. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I heard one from my father at Norfolk in the navy to my mother during World War II. It plays on a 33rpm record player. It is basically a recorded post card or letter that allowed the recipient to hear the voice of a loved one.

Hi AriaGrandparents2013,
Here is a link to a company in Windermere Florida that copies the audio disc to CD. It appears this was an audio disc (record) created by a machine in a department store. “http://www.lp2cd.com/transfers/home-...ration-to-cd/” We accept under this category and pricing: • records at any speed (78 rpm, 45 rpm or 33 1/3 rpm) • made by a home recorder • by an "automat" type machine in a department store • letter-records ("Your Man in Service", etc.) • USO records (branded "USO", "Pepsi", "Coca Cola", etc.). • Other brands include "Recordio", "Wilcox Gay", "Voice-O-Graph", "Silvertone", "Federal Perma", and many more. • Some records are made of metal, some are cardboard. Some have a layer of "black paint" (lacquer), some are colored (red or green, etc.). • All are very noisy and require specialized, extra care and professional experience to achieve a satisfying and safe transfer to CD. • IMPORTANT: A CD holds maximum 80 minutes, which is the maximum duration processed as "One Project". If you submit short 78rpm records, it is very possible that they will all fit on one 80-minute CD. If you submit long 33rpm records, we will put as many records as will fit on one 80-minute CD as one "Project". Remaining records will be processed and charged as a separate "Project" (or "Projects"). Example: Twelve 78rpm home-made records, at 6 minutes each (total 72 minutes) will fit on one CD (one "Project"). Twelve 33rpm home-made records, at 40 minutes each (total 480 minutes) will fit on 6 CDs, and will be processed and charged as 6 "Projects". Lynda |
