Default New Jack Reacher book coming out November 11.

Home - US - JackReacher.com

I hope this is a good one. Some of them of late I had to give up on them.

Whit, Jane, Holly and others years ago were talking about the Jack Reacher books they had read or planned to read. This was at Doggie Doo Run Run. You never know what kind of things come up at dog parks.

I started with 61 Hours by Lee Child and was hooked until his brother came into the picture as a writer. They seemed to lose a lot of their writing quality.

Some of the dog park people were on Talk of the Villages. Many of them have passed though.

Same plot as all the other books, just different location and some name changes.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

I like the show's characters better than the book.

For 16 years, I don't remember Jack ever having sex.

Since Andrew took over, he gets plenty of action.

Not sure about that. I would need to do some research.

Research result-- He does get some bedroom action here and there in various Lee Child books but in a few of them he is pretty much too busy fighting the bad guys.

Jack did well with the fairer sex.

Still find the stories interesting. Like the series as well.

He had various very short relationships with women. Probably because of his need to wander.

The later books do have him settled more in places.

I think you'll find that Jack only had sex with 2 women, until the clown brother took over the character.

Now he's getting action all the time.

Of course, I'm old and my memory is fading, particularly about sex.

I did some research. Reacher's Love Interests: A Journey Through His Romantic Connections

My son and I both read the series. Lee Child was great. Vince Flynn was pretty good. Kyle Mills is definitely going back over too much old ground, to wordy, boring at times, and if he doesn't do better on the next book, it will be the last one for me. The good news is I'll have more time to do important stuff, like my floors could use a cleaning, the grill too.

The early books were (and are) fun reads.

So I'll re-phrase my original contention. Since Andrew took over, Jack is more in touch with his feminine side and much more interested in "romance" with casual characters, unrelated to his past.

Who knows, maybe he'll finally do the horizontal bop with Frances Neagley.

I would like to see that.

I taught courses in detective fiction for a quarter century at a state university. I tried assigning a Reacher novel, and the students were crazy about it. So for about five years I assigned one every semester. These were always the favorite books. I considered the writing adequate—above pedestrian—and exciting, but lacking in the cleverness and wit found in so many detective novels. I did enjoy the books! But I don’t consider them very well written. Give me Dorothy Sayers, or Ellis Peters, or P. D. James, or Louise Penny, or J. K. Rowling (under her pen name Robert Galbraith). Or many others. I do enjoy the TV series, though.
