Default 3-D Movies in The Villages?

When we returned from an extended summer RV trip, I heard a rumor that The Villages was going to convert one theater in each of the Spanish Springs and Lake Sumter movie houses to 3-D format. I haven't seen or heard of anything "official" about this happening. When our grandkids are here, they would much rather see a movie available in 3-D even if it means traveling to Ocala or their watching it at their hometown theater. I too would prefer to see a 3-D movie in a 3-D theater. It seems as if more and more movies are available in 3-D format, so this may be a growing concern. Has anyone heard whether The Villages is going to go modern and make 3-D movies available here so we don't have to travel elsewhere to see one?

Mr Magoo (hmmmm. Have a hard time picturing the old cartoon character Mr Magoo watching 3D)

The announcement came out several months ago and I recall them saying 3d would be done this "fall".

Best suggestion is to call the theatre or stop by and ask for an update on implementation date.

Narnia is opening at the Rialto in 3D on December 10, 2010; while Tron: the Legacy will open December 17, 2010 at the Old Mill Playhouse in 3D.

They have two theaters here in the Villages closed this week I assume for the 3D conversion. Do not know if these are the 1 auditorium at the Old Mill Playhouse and the 2 or 5 at the Rialto though?

OBD... I don't understand why (or if) that comment was directed at you.... But, I think your suggestion that they bring Avatar back in 3D is an excellent idea. I certainly would go as would many others who missed it in 3d the first time around.

Default Bringing back Avatar to 3D theater is a great suggestion!

I saw Avatar in 3D. It turned what to me would have been a so-so movie into an extraordinary experience. Although I didn't see it at an imax theater, it was visually more awesome than any imax show I've seen.

If they bring it to TV in 3D, please treat yourself!

I just hope they'll also play the 3-D movies in a "regular" theater. I'm one of those unfortunate ones who cannot watch 3-D -- I get serious motion sickness and I can't see in 3-D regardless of glasses. I envy those of you who can enjoy 3-D.

Agree. I saw Avatar up in an Ocala theater in 3D. Quite an experience. If there were enough demand for it they might bring it back to the Villages in 3D.

Default 3D upgrade in auditorium 5--closest one to TGI Friday's.

I drove by the Old Mill Playhouse and they are working on Auditorium 5 for the conversion to 3D.

That's the screen they usually use--along with Auditorium 1-- when they show the box office smashes on two screens at the Old Mill Playhouse.

The movies usually do not go from 1 to 5 when just playing in the biggest auditorium-- which seats about 300--until they have been here a few weeks.

So, maybe that means that the big attractions will stay in two theaters longer now that the Villages' Old Mill Playhouse will have a 3D screen.

The movie ads in the paper say that digital 3D will be at Spanish Springs December 10th with the Chronicles of Narnia and at Lake Sumter Landing on December 17th with Tron Legacy.
