Having read all three books my wife and I went to see the new movie "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" yesterday. One word of advice: if you haven't read the book, don't see the movie. It packs a whole lot of action and info into a movie and we agree that if we hadn't read the book we would have had a hard time following it. Having said that we both enjoyed the movie. (except the opening credits with very loud Led Zeppelin and bizarre film was a bit hard to take).
The part of Lisbeth was perfectly cast and we felt the actress really felt true to our perceived images of her. I am amazed that the screenwriter got as much into the movie as he did although as I said that is also what makes the movie a bit hard to follow. We look forward to seeing the sequels as well as the Swedish versions. |

the Swedish ones were awesome (IMHO)...I don't mind subtitles, but I know some people don't enjoy that - I'd rather have subtitles rather than dubbing...always drives me crazy! Anyway, plan to see the new version....love Craig and I think he'll make a great Michael Blomqvist....loved the books, too, but I guess that's another thread!!!

All three of the Swedish films are on Netflix.

Also, all three films are available free with an Amazon Prime subscription, both the dubbed and sub-titled versions.

We have now seen the long (2 part) Swedish versions of all three books and enjoyed them immensely. Not having great hearing and further disadvantaged by the accents I loved having the subtitles- I find that by following them I actually feel like I'm hearing everything and don't find it distracting at all. In fact, I've starting watching other shows with the closed caption on! We both felt that the Swedish version of "Dragon Tattoo" was better than the American version.

Looks like the US Dragon movie did win an Oscar for Film Editing.
I am not big into Awards shows so I taped this year's Oscars but have not watched it yet except for a few minutes here and there. Winners for the 84th Academy Awards | Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Last edited by Taltarzac725; 03-21-2012 at 06:32 AM. |

After reading the books, watched the Swedish subtitled version on Netflix. Thought they were excellent. More recently watched them again on Amazon, this time the dubbed version. I enjoyed those even more. You do miss a lot reading the subtitles.

Don't agree about the opening credits, I thought those were epic and really added production value to the film compared to its swedish counter part. You can also perfectly see this movie without having read the books, it's not hard to follow at all.

I rented all three of the movies from Netflix. If you go to Setup, you can change the spoken language to English and/or add the subtitles for the hard of hearing.
