It is very expensive to make Hollywood movies, so the companies rely on sequels to bring in cash. They don't need new ideas, frequently refuse to pay the original screen writer's asking salary, don't need much of an advertising budget as the original paved the way with audiences, simply put they are most often low quality cash cows.

Of recent movies I really liked The Shape of Water and Oppenheimer. The latter has been growing on me especially after its 7 Oscars.

Unforgiven is the greatest western that impacts the way you see gunslingers. Anything Clint Eastwood and also the title of my favorite Metallica song.

Remember when you could only see Wizard of Oz once a year on TV?

Seven Samauri, Jaws, Raiders, Das Boot, etc....all excellent. Jaws made me afraid of the ocean but still drink some Narragansett beers.

I'll add some of my faves even though they may not be classics:

Star Wars....first year in High school and first time I went on my own to the movies. It changed the way films are made forever.

The Terminator...don't worry....he'll be Bach

Top Gun Maverick. I dispise Tom Cruise but just love me some Top Gun. Was better than Top Gun and can't wait for Part 3
