No dishwasher, tomweed???

I have to vacuum at least once a week because of all the shedding Beau does. And I need to empty the dust compartment of the small vacuum due to all the hair.

They did do some cleaning like that in the movie of making it look like it had been a no alcohol party when it was definitely one with imbibing.

Most of us here lived thru this Teddy episode. The movie - Jason Clarke was spot-on. And Bruce Dern playing Joe Kennedy-the old man was scary and no doubt spot-on as well.
A (supposedly) true backstory of powerful and corrupt politicians, cops and judges all backed up Teddy's involvement and skating thru with a wrist-slap instead of manslaughter. He successfully used his family connections to get special treatment from the criminal justice system.

I must say, I was so angered during the last half of the film by all the dirty backroom planning to ensure the truth does not arise and that the Kennedy's youngest son remains in the Senate and hopefully regain credibility to run for president. All the uncouth political games.

Yet another reason why politics is such a dirty game and that many of us in the public are viewed as simply a voter that can be gotten by messaging and unvarnished lies. I left the theater feeling dirty that matters as that could possibly happen...and no doubt so many more to this day. And wondering what type of films as this may come out 20 years from now about our recent past and current political events...

Default Great Education

The movie was a great education of what impact power brokers have on our life. The movie was about 45 minutes longer than needed. The basics of the movie was well written and the representation of the Kennedy family was distorted.

I have 2 different friends who've seen it...the 1st one said "don't waste your money!" The 2nd said it was well-done BUT it made them mad! I think I'll pass...since it was so much in the news back then, I don't have to "re-live" it.

I read some critic and audience reviews after seeing the movie. They seem to be quite varied = black<>white, left<>right...perhaps.

The worst part of the saga for me is the coverup. And how the public is yet again outright lied to and sold fabrications to suit political ambitions. That is the core of the film, and even tho we lived thru that event as it happened - the movie uncovers the dirty truths of what Ted and his team did to save him from prison.

Well written assessment. I so agree.

Interesting change in times......if the Kennedy's did today what they did then they would all be sued, disgraced or in jail. We are getting better at stopping that behavior but, IMO, still have a ways to go.

I'm from MA and remember when this happened, but stories get distorted between truth and rumor.
I seem to remember hearing that when they found the car Mary Jo was found in the back seat (and Ted supposedly didn't know she was there), however, although I haven't seen the movie, the trailer seems to show that she is in the front passenger seat.

Does anyone else remember this?

Per the movie - and evidence... she was in the front seat, and did NOT die from drowning. The car flipped upside down - somehow Teddy got out, she was stuck, and evidently died of asphyxiation - the medical examiner retrieved only a tablespoon or so amount of water in her lungs and mouth. So - she lived for a while in an air pocket - and Ted could have gotten her out. Again - this was a complete cover-up of the truth at the time, and the doctors were either bought or intimidated. AND early on Ted was planning to state that SHE was driving the car - but his team finally said - NO!
And - NO autopsy was performed even though it was a MA state law. Yet again...only the rich and famous and politicians... grrrrrrrrrrr.

I agree. Back then I was a huge fan of the Kennedys. Now I know that John was NO angel, nor Bobby, nor Ted........I was too young to vote for John Kennedy but remember going to see him in Ohio. It was unheard of for a Roman Catholic to run for the office of president and there were plenty of Pope/tunnel rumors going around. (That they would build a tunnel under the ocean so that the papacy would have easy access to the White House.) Time has gone by but huge rumors are still swallowed whole.

I don't think I will see the movie. I know how it ends.

Please keep posts about the movie. We’ve removed two political comments already. If there are more political posts, the thread will be closed.
