This is quite a good movie. One of the better ones I have seen from 2015. Does not make the NFL look all that good; at least, not the management. Concussion Movie vs True Story of Bennet Omalu, Mike Webster

![]() I'm not really sure if I knew this at the time, whether I would have not played from 6th grade through high school, but it would certainly have made me think three times before I had let my boys play. What's sad is some of the talking heads who attack those who even bring up the subject as being anti-American and using it as supposed another example of the 'Wussification of America.' In spite of the spate of good people who become violent and suicidal at such a young age. ![]() Too much money and the future of pro football is at stake, so of course the NFL's line will be to try and obfuscate and downplay it. It's analogous to the tobacco industry that lied about their own research showing the serious known harms of smoking, long before finally being forced to admit it publicly and pay up. ![]() |

Will Smith was great in this role,, One of the best for him. Should have gotten a nomination and got snubbed.

I didn't see the movie but it has been an ongoing problem in the NFL.
I don't expect much will change, as it is always about the money to be made. Some players have decided the risk is not worth it and have quit early in their careers. With the concussion and PED problems, I am amazed at how much risk one is willing to take to have the possibility of an extravangent lifestyle, with big money being thrown around. Sadly, most players don't even make the five year mark when their pensions kick in. It's a brutal sport but I have to admit, I am a big football fan. Hopefully, they will get better at recognizing concussion symptons better and make rules to stop players from being permanently disabled.

![]() ![]() I had wondered over the last 4 or 5 years why so many young very talented players were calling it quits. After seeing the movie, one can understand the issue. Very dangerous thing to miss with. Makes you wonder why more of the players do not finish their college degree first. Have something wonderful to fall back on. |

My husband and I both thought this was a great movie. It certainly should have been included in the Best Picture nominees. Will Smith did a tremendous acting job. What was amazing though was the story. The movie tells the story in the most compelling way...and I don't even watch football.
I hope that families of young children watch it and anticipate that many more athletes and former athletes donate their brains upon death to further the medical research that is in its infancy. |

Football for Kids, Juniors , High School, and College is in big trouble. I played, but would not let my children do so.
Brutality in actions is taught from the very first introduction to the game. In other sports hard contact is incidental. In football it is the objective. Not mentioned in Concussion are the thousands of debilitating and lifelong injuries to ankles , shoulders , hips, knees, internal organs, etc. and the costs of these injuries in life changing circumstances as well as the enormous $ costs to our society going forward. I full well know that what I have said is heresy and will lead me to fire and brimstone.

Would like more information if people can find some reliable sources. This Wikipedia article is a good start. Anyone have experience searching the medical databases for concussions and related topics. I would like to know what is out there??? |
