Default Favorite Bond... James Bond?

Sean Connery is still my favorite James Bond playing actor.

We will have to see who they get for Bond in the next movie even though it looks like a woman has the designator 007.

Probably be Jayne Bond if they do get a woman.
Bond was, is, and always should be, a white, British, heterosexual male.

One of the more recent James Bond movies had a black lady using the number 007 but I believe the Daniel Craig Bond had earned it back by the end of the movie.

Ian Fleming wrote “ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” I don’t think he would even complain.

I kinda disliked Roger Moore's portrayal. He played it way too broadly. He either didn't understand that the whole thing was a spoof, or he was trying to spoof a spoof which takes much more comedic talent than he had.

Last year I went on a James Bond binge and watched ALL of the James Bond movies, in order of release. The one exception was the 1954 TV adaptation of Casino Royale starring Barry Nelson). Doing so changed my order of favorite Bonds to the list below, from top to bottom:

Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, 2006 through No Time to Die, 2021)
Sean Connery (Dr. No, 1967 through Never Say Never Again, 1983)
Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, 1987 through License to Kill, 1989)
Pierce Brosnan (Goldeneye, 1995 through Die Another Day, 2002)
Geroge Lazenby (On Her Majesty's Secret Service, 1969)
Roger Moore (Live and Let Die, 1973 through A View to a Kill, 1985)
David Niven (Casino Royal, 1967)
Woody Allen (Casino Royal, 1967 - technically as "Jimmy" Bond, nephew of James Bond)
*Barry Nelson (Casino Royale, 1954)

Daniel Craig was just so damned good that he bumped my former favorite of Sean Connery down to #2. I was surprised just how good Timothy Dalton was, despite really horrible scripts. If he had been given Daniel Craig's scripts, he might have been my #1. Pierce Brosnan was OK and definitely looked the part, beating out George Lazenby's wooden performance (though OHMSS has perhaps the best soundtrack of all Bond films). Roger Moore was just silly to the point of embarrassing. Ian Fleming originally imagined David Niven as Bond but the godawful 1967 production of Casino Royale crushed that idea. Woody Allen? As the James Bond villian and Bond's own, like-named nephew? Puh-leeze! I sure wish I could find a way to see Barry Allen to see how he did in the 1954 production of Casino Royale. He was a pretty good actor but I can't picture him as suave, dangerous and definitely British James Bond.

Sean Connery! Some actors become the archetype for the characters they portray. Connery played other characters, but he was Bond. James Bond!
To me, Roger Moore is The Saint. Just standing in for the real James Bond. Same with the rest. Stand ins.
