I thought it might be fun to start a thread dispensing some movie trivia like the star who turned down movie parts, and their subsitution, went on to become a star.
Casablanca was offered to Gary Cooper but he thought the lead character was too shady and refused the part. It was then offered to George Raft. George was famous in Hollywood for not being decisive about the roles he wanted to play, and didn't take it. Humphrey Bogart accepted and the rest is history.

It looks like Dirty Harry could have been a number of actors as several refused the part before Clint Eastwood took it. |

Jack Nicholson as Michael Corleone in The Godfather. It's hard to imagine someone other than Al Pacino. “Just when I thought I was out…they pull me back in.”

ELVIS was approached to do the movie "A Star Is Born" but the Colonel nixed it. It was said that ELVIS really wanted the part but didn't take it. He had wanted to get away from the style of movies he had made in the past. The part then went to Kris Kristofferson. It ended up being a blockbuster movie.

"Gone With The Wind was read by Carole Lombard and she wanted her husband Clark Gable, to play in it and he did. She wanted the part of Scarlett O'Hara but it went to Vivien Leigh. BTW - Olivia Havailand just turned 99!!!

Fun topic. Enjoyed them all so far and only knew of a couple of them. So here's mine:
John Travolta turned down Forrest Gump....can't begin to imagine that without Tom Hanks And this one I'm not 100% on but think I heard many moons ago that Tom Selleck turned down Indiana Jones. That one I can see working actually. |
