George S. Patton - Wikipedia
This movie had so many unforgettable scenes. I saw it when I was about 11 at a movie theater and probably with my family. Patton (film - Wikipedia) |

Many years ago I was flying out of Luxemburg and I had arrived at the airport very early and had time to just wonder about for a few hours. I drove south of the airport to sight see some of the country side and noticed a sign that pointed to a small US Military Cementery.
I drove in to see it and an elderly couple asked me if I knew where Patton's grave was and I said it was somewhere in the US. The gentleman said no he was buried here. I walked around the Cementery and saw his grave which was at the head of a number of graves that were arranged in a half moon with Patton at the head of the arrangement. He wanted to be buried with his Troops. He truly was a great Warrior. ![]() |

I could plainly see the mortar rounds explosions being walked down the street towards me. So, I gave up on watching the movie to run to secure my M-14 rifle, helmet, flak jacket and go to the trenches. I stayed in the trenches all night to then report to the operations room in the morning for another 12 hour shift intercepting enemy communications. I believe that it wasn’t until I returned home (USA) that I finally saw the movie Patton. |

Oscar Best picture 1970. Best actor too but Scott refused to accept.

Loved his funny quote about dying for your country. “Make the enemy die for his country.” (Cleaned up the words so as not to offend anyone)

Loved that movie too. I bought the DVD for the sequel Last Days of Patton, also starring Scott. Much slower paced, but some good lines nonetheless.

Patton has always been a hero to me, for saving the Lipizzaner horses during the war. Interesting article about it. How General Patton and Some Unlikely Allies Saved the Prized Lipizzaner Stallions

Yep, he said Eisenhower was one of the best clerks he ever had.
His reputation alone saved thousands of lives because he was used as a D-Day Decoy. The Germans had more respect for him than the US Military Chiefs. |
