Just saw this movie and loved it. Jennifer Lawrence won best actress from SAG and Golden Globe. Bradley Cooper might have won if not for Daniel Day Lewis' performance in Lincoln. Robert DiNiro was excellent - as always. Rough language may offend some, so be forewarned.

OK, here's a bit of a different take. We saw it the weekend it came out. There were a lot of funny bits, and DeNiro was good. BUT, this was supposed to be a comedy, and the only way to look at it as a comedy was if you think mental illness is funny. Just my opinion. I liked the movie OK, my wife hated it for the reason above.

I did not get the impression that Silver Linings Playbook uses mental illness for humor. Have not seen the movie yet however. I know some movies and TV shows use "mental illness" labels as a weapon of the powerful to manipulate, punish and/or control those with much lesser power like with Revenge, American Horror Story: Asylum and the Swedish and US Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. I am positive these kinds of tactics show up in real life as there was a July 6, 1996 CBS National News report that showed Library of Congress personnel BRAGGING about how well it worked when dealing with certain employees. The US military have also used such measures against sexual abuse victims. http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/14/health...ality-disorder |

Saw it with a good sized crowd at the Rialto in the Villages. It is about a man who finds his wife cheating on him while in the shower. They are both teachers at the same high school. He beats the man with whom his wife cheated on him and then gets sentenced to eight months in a mental health facility. The story is basically about how the man comes to grips with his life after getting out of the mental health facility.
Very good acting, screenwriting, and directing. This is actually the movie I liked the most so far of anything I have seen in 2012-2013. |

good movie. the fella has been diagnosed with bi-polar disease, however, from his miraculous recovery without meds all due to focusing on dance routines -- don't think that diagnosis was correct. still . . . loved the movie!

Saw Silver Linings Playbook yesterday. It took me a few minutes to warm up to this movie, but it did win me over. Excellent performances by the cast. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence have genuine chemistry, and Jacki Weaver and Robert DeNiro are excellent as the parents trying to deal with their adult son's psychological issues.
