Default The Searchers - on TBS 8/19/2015

In case you've never seen it...

Tomorrow night on TCM is the John Wayne classic western "The Searchers."

This and "Shane" are probably the two best westerns ever made.

My opinion anyway.

I have not seen those. How would you compare them to my favorite westerns? High Noon, (I've seen it at least 25 times), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (seen at least 20 times), Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood (seen about 5 times), 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe (seen about 5 times) and the Coen Bros version of True Grit (seen 3 times).

I'm going to record The Searchers. I noticed right before that, TCM has John Wayne in the Quiet Man, that was my dad's favorite movie. He was a big boxing fan and I guess the fight scene really made that movie for him.

I've seen the movies you listed (except for the new True Grit) several times each... and like them all. I'm not really sure why I prefer "The Searchers" except that it just draws you in and gets you involved. High Noon had that same sort of thing. BC&SK and the Unforgiven, while both great movies, just felt like interesting, enjoyable movies... but just movies. I prefer the Glenn Ford 3:10 version; maybe because he played against type he seemed more evil.
One or two scenes of The Searchers were clearly filmed on stage... and that was a bit distracting.
