Great remake . . . actually some people gave it a standing ovation at the end last night at Spanish Springs. Certainly worth the price of admission and will keep you entertained for about two hours. The Coen brothers remade this and stuck to the source of the book and it made a much better movie that the John Wayne original.

8.5 out of 10

I will enjoy anything that Joel and Ethan Coen make -- even A Serious Man!

Rating movie on a scale of 1 to 10, we'd give it a 6....Ok, gave up our coach potato position in front of TV, and the popcorn was Grrrreeeaaat!...
Some of movie was hard to understand actors, would be interested to hear how this one held up to the original...

The original wasn't classic acting, but many of the lines were classic.

Liked the new one slightly more than the original except that I too often had a hard time understanding the actor's accents and words in the Coen Brothers True Grit. The details look a lot more true to life than the John Wayne version too.

I just watched the John Wayne True Grit DVD last night and saw the 2010 version today. I had read the book of the same name but that was a long time ago.

Excellent acting by all. I see an Academy Award nomination for Jeff Bridges.

Saw it tonight (New Year's Eve) and wife is now downloading the book to her e-reader.

New Year's Eve afternoon I did not see any empty seats at the Rialto for True Grit. Many people were raving about how good the girl who played Mattie was. You may want to go early if you have more than two in your party and do not like seating in the first couple of rows in front of the screen.

I was wondering - has there ever been a case where the same role resulted in two academy awards?

Cannot find one but the portrayals of the character Max Cady from the two versions of Cape Fear should have earned them for Robert Mitchum and Robert De Niro. They nominated De Niro for one.
