Was dating in around 1970ish when to movie called 1000 motels. Only movie I have ever gone to were 95% of the people walked out in half hour. that my friends is what's called bad movie when the paying public walks out.

Don't ask me what it was about or who starred in it. It was so bad I couldn't remember day after the horrific event.

Never heard of 1000 Motels, but 200 Motels in 1971 starred The Mothers of Invention and Ringo.

Dune. But there's been a whole batch of nihilistic films in the past few years that I really dislike. Ones where you walk out of the theater wondering "why did someone feel the need to tell that 'story'". Call me old-fashioned, but generally speaking, if you tell a story there ought to be a POINT.

Dances with Wolves. How many hours of watching buffalo roam the plains can you tolerate. I was bored to death.

I dozed off several times. It was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen.

As far as it winning best picture, IMHO, it was one of those left wing Hollywood things. It had a political message so they lapped it up. They forget that their job is to entertain us and that movie just bored me.

2000 Maniacs. Saw this when I was stationed at Cherry Point back in 64-65.

There were some critics who did not like it all that much. Dances With Wolves - Movie Reviews - Rotten Tomatoes

I am kind of a Kevin Costner fan though even enjoying some movies which others see as real turkeys like The Postman and Waterworld. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/kevin_costner/

I have never really seen Hollywood as going left or right. There are a huge number of people involved in the making of movies and many of these are in other locations than Southern California and for every Kevin Costner there is a Kelsey Grammer. For every Jane Fonda, a Charlton Heston.

Many on this thread have mentioned The American as the number one worst picture. While I agree that George Clooney's character was dull, lifeless, and extremely boring, on the other hand seeing just about all of Violante Placido by itself was worth the price of admission. She is most beautiful.

I looked at a couple of lists on line of "bad movies". To my mind most of them were things like Ed Wood movies, or really cheesy sci-fi movies. Thing is, when something is that bad you kind of have to watch it, kind of like a car wreck.
Agree ... Reds was horrible. Walked out before it finished.
